You are right. I also have a 1973 Manual, and in the 1973 it allows for 2000
lbs as the MAXIMUM. And it does say trailer brakes are required over 1000
lbs.

All on page 10 of 73 manual. Nothing on page 11 re: towing.

The 78s (and 77s) went to a 403 engine. Wonder if that was the reason for
the reduction???

So if you have a 73 it's 2000 lbs, but the 78 Manual says
its 1000 lbs.

I don't have my manual handy, but IIRC, the '75 manual said Maximum 1,000
lbs WITHOUT TRAILER BRAKES. It went on to say something about contacting
General Motors for actual towing instructions. I wonder if anyone did this
and has the "official" word from the General????
