I understand your concerns on the towing capacity of the GMC. The
group that I belong to (GMC GreatLaker) has a majority that tow during
the year. I personally tow a 2 DR 4 WD manual trans GEO Tracker. It
weights in at a little over 2240 and if you look around it is a towed of
choice for a lot of people. The next most popular units in the club is
the Honda and the Saturn. We also have several that tow Jeeps and Mini
Vans. I do not use auxiliary braking because I have found that tracker
is light enough that I don't even know it is there, anything heavier you
would want to use a brake buddy or other system. By the way our GMC is
a 77 Eleganza II with a 403 and 3.55 final drive. I get 8.2 to 8.4 MPG
at 64 MPH when towing and close to 10.5 MPG when not. The vast amount
of past experience in our club indicates that as long as you keep it
light you will not have any problems and use aux. braking when needed.
