A few days past someone was asking about towing in regards to a Chevie
Blazer S10 1991 .
We have a GMC Jimmy S15 which is basically the same as the S10 it is an 1989
and weighs 4,830 but is a 4X4 so heaver than 2 wheel drive.
I know it is to heavy for us to tow but don't know about others. We tow a
Nisson Sentra which is over 2,000 and don't think we want anything heaver.

I question your weight on the S15 Jimmy, My 87 S15 Jimmy 4X4 weighed
3645. A full size jimmy would weigh closer to what you talking about.
I sold my Jimmy and got a Geo Tracker 2 DR manual trans 4 wheel drive.
It weighs in at 2275. I have towed it about 5K miles this year and
don't even know it is there. Generally the lighter the better when
towing with a GMC. In our club there is a mix of Honda's, GEO Trackers,
Saturn's, Jeeps and even small vans. The choice is really yours to
make. The heavier you go the need for auxiliary brake is needed.

John you are right I was loooking at the wrong figures on door jamb. Weight
is much closer to what you stated for Jimmy S15 4X4.
See women can admit to being wrong sometime.

Sometimes, I unusually stop every 250 mile to stretch.

Lanier,
I really don't do anything special. Most of the trips that I take are
under 250 miles so it is not a problem. If you asking then you have
read the manual. Admittedly I tow faster than 50 mph (I run 64 mph),
but most people that I have talked to that have trackers just take
reasonable care. If on a long trip I do start the engine about every
second stop and run it for about a minute.
