Toronado Engine and Transmission

I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1973 GMC motorhome and need to have
the engine and transmission rebuilt. I learned that a friend of mine
has a 1967 Toronado engine and transmission that he is willing to sell.
Will a Toronado engine and transmission work in a GMC motorhome? If so
are there a specific model/serial number that I need to verify? Any
help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Ben,

I believe a 67 Toro would be 425cid. Your 73 GMC has a 455. If yours
is unusable for rebuilding, you should be able to find an 76 or earlier
Toro in a salvage yard with the 455 at a reasonable price.

Patrick,
Is the Transmission in the Toronado the exact same thing as the GMC?
Or is the GMC beefed up in the drivetrain department...
Rob

I believe what you are referring to is known as a switched pitch or
variable pitched transmission. Don Brown from W Lafayette IN, for one,
runs one in his coach. Because switching on that feature leads to heat
build-up in the torque converter, there is a time limit in its use at
any point.

The coach transmission is a model THM 425.
