The engine was a 350 and although will fit is not a practical swap for the
GMC. The transmission was a metric transmission and not strong enough for
the GMC.

>Was visiting a local after market parts place (junk yard) last weekend &
>acquired a rear license plate bracket that tilts & has a spring in it.
>Remember the old GM cars had gas tank inlets in the middle of bumper and the
>license plate was used to hide it. I wanted to use that same concept to hide
>my city water connection on the GMC.
>
>What I found was a Toronado diesel, intact with drive train. That is unusual
>for most of the cars had been stripped of engine & most time the transmission.
> I was wondering if this unit has some value? I don't know how much, but
>since I am on a first name/his hand in my wallet basis with "manager" of the
>yard, I think it can be had cheaply. Is it worth the trouble to get one like
>this as a backup? Does the diesel combination have different final ratio like
>3.42 or 3.50?
>
>I have been listening to the discussions of diesels & other engines as
>replacements. I have heard of some engine to transmission connecting problems
>due to the bolt pattern of the Olds FWD system. Does anyone wish to guess
>what year this car might be. This combination was problably not offered very
>many years, but I have wondered if this was a possible solution to the diesel
>desire & engine connect problems?
>
>Anyway, just another piece of information to consider.

Paul, it may be pure myth but I was told the GM diesels were reworked gas
engine blocks and not worth much new let alone old.

That is what I heard!

Dave another old myth. Most of the diesel blocks were 350DX blocks and they
were a true diesel block.
