Well I got the generator started only to find there's no power being delivered to the coach. Checked breakers and fuses all seemed good. Now what?

Check that you're not still looking at shore power as your source.

Some coaches you have to plug the shore power pigtail into the generator
outlet, some have a two-way lockout switch in the breaker panel to
change sources.

If that isn't the problem then start looking at the genny itself.
Usually loss of residual magnetism is the culprit.

Jeffery, if you have a coach built by GMC, the output from the Onan winds
up in the male end of a cord that plugs into the receptacle in the power
cord storage compartment above the belt line on the drivers side of the
coach. If it is not plugged in, you will not have any power inside the
coach except for 12 volt DC.
When you hook up to shore power, you pull the generator cord and plug the
shore power cord into the receptacle where the generator was plugged in.
So, check to see if that is how yours is connected.
MANY of these coaches have been modified with automatic transfer
switches and various other configurations, so check carefully.

Hi Jim,
There is a 4 prong outlet inside the box. The po had all kinds of adapters on the end of the 25 ' shore power cord . So do I plug that 4 prong shore
cord into the outlet and fire up the generator? I think you've found my answer. But want to check first

NonoNOno. The output winds up in the female outlet inside the hatch where the coach power cord lives. Whatever the cord is plugged into is the power
source for the coach. Shore power, or the oplughole in the hatch, which is the Onan output. Putting power on the male plug would be a good way to
shock someone.

postings? Or, it might be that I sometimes say no when I mean yes, or, I
can't tell a 7/16" wrench from a 10 mm, or last resort,
I can just man up and admit that I was bas-akwards. You are right,
I had it backwards. Inversely proportional to the square root of the speed,
or some other engineer speak. (Grin).
Yes, you are correct, the cords are normalized, It is the receptacle
inside the compartment that is Male, not the ends of the cords. That would
be a dangerous way to do it, for sure. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes the same mistake twice :)

We both know the receptacle inside the compartment (connected to the Onan output) is female, the cord ends are male.

The connector attached to the SOURCE of power is always FEMALE. That is true whether that source is commercial power or the generator set output. The LOAD connector is always MALE. Otherwise, "hot" power would be exposed on the male pins, and that could easily KILL!

Plugged her in ran the generator loaded for 35 minutes and all seems well. Time for a little reward maintenance. Can I buy the air and oil filter at
Napa or chain auto parts store?

Onan 6K oil filter is Wix 51762. They should be able to cross reference to a NAPA gold by usually just dropping first digit

There is a NAPA air filter that would work. You would have to put a long threaded rod in, but it is bigger.

Read the captions as there are other numbers listed that could work. Onan part are very pricey.
