Wasn't gonna do it. Was gonna' just watch this message thread, but now I
can't... we've also towed our '74 VW thing on all fours, in neutral for 6
years. On a VW, you can just pin a tow bar right on the front torsion bar
tubes and go, go, go!

I worry more that it isn't even there than anything else. Who'd have
thought... that someone else would have the same combination. I've pulled
VW's all over the place for years and never heard of a problem with the
transaxle from towing, whether swing axle, transporter or IRS. (Independent
Rear Suspension).

The only 'weakness' I've ever found in a VW tranny is reverse. None of this
backing up a hill with the tires squealing or you'll need to do some rear
end work. Mostly on your own, and mostly in the area of your pocketbook.

I was gonna stay out of it myself...but......I tow a '68 RHD bug, four
down....no problem. The expert who suggested reverse towing
may have been smoking a non-taxed product! For anyone without
a life, I can e-mail a scanned photo of the "Travelin' Bear" with VW
attached:-)
Seriously......the same tow bar for the std bug is easily adapted to
the SuperBeetle. I tow different cars for different occasions. The
bug is the only one that makes me nervous.....I can't tell if it's
really there until I look!!
