My '76 PB is my first RV, so far, so good. It does not have an awning. I
like the clean lines of "no awning" but going into my first summer in Texas
with the GMC I think I had better get some opinions.
I would like to hear from from anyone but most especially those who didn't
have them and then added them on. Any data about cost, installation, or
anything else on the subject would be appreciated.

Cant give you an answer for the GMC. I can only talk about my SOB.
For the last 5 years I have been on the road during the summer with
my SOB. The second year I put a Carefree awning on it. Since all
of this is work I stay in campgrounds near the races. Many do not
have trees. I have enjoyed setting under my awning on a hot day.
If you stay in state parks with big trees then you may not need one.
If you dont set out you may not need one. I will be looking for someone who
can install a Carefree that the door will not hit.

Take Care

Arch,

I'll try again. If the link gets chopped up again, just copy the whole thing
all the way to "t=0" and paste it into your browser window. This awning
might be more than you want, but it looks like it clears the door!

Stephen, When I bought my first Palm Beach new in '76 there were no
awaning colors available that were compatible with the Frosted Mint of
the coach so I went without.

Now I have a '77 PB that is painted as an Eleganza II and there are
awnings that match, color wise.

I could not get along without the awning anymore.

It not only keeps the sun off the coach (and the refridgerator) but it
keeps our chairs dry in a heavy dew or rain. I agree the coach looks more
slick without it but it adds to our enjoyment of camping.

Any data about cost, installation, or anything else on the subject
would be appreciated.

Cost may be around a $1,000 depending on the awning you buy. I have the
A&E 8500 which has been real good for us. Many like Zip Dee awnings bit I
don't care for them. Sometimes Camping World has a sale with special low
installation fees. They warrant thier installation work for life so it is
something to consider.

Awnings require certain care. If you leave the campsite for a period of
time you need to lower one end in case of a down burst or roll it up if
you are in an area that has suddent wind bursts.
