since your talking about tires i bought kirkland tires at costco for $65 ea d rated.

i was told back in the 70 's the d tires were recalled because of manufacturing problems- not performance problems.

p s thanx to all for past information & answers

When you characterized the problems that the recalled General tires had with
the GMC motorhome tires as a "performance probems" it made me think about a
story told about "Bum" Phillips the Head coach of the Dallas Cowboys
football team. Seems that some news reporters were interviewing him after a
losing game and asked him what happened. Bum replied that they had a timing
problem. One reporter pressed Bum for an explanation and Bum explained "we
had a timing problem, the game started at 2:00 and we didn't start playing
until 4:00. Thats what happened to the General D rated tires. The sidewalls
blew out because they could not take the loads the GMC put on them!

That he was, and you were the first to catch it! maybe I was wishing? But
it still happened.

Boy has the issue of tires sure created a lot of hot air!! However,
Heinz' comment he can't find Bridgestone R 260 tires is likely
right-Last year I tried to get some in Canada and, at least at that time
they were not bringing them in to Canada. The Bridgstone 273,and
Bridgestone265 have polyester plies in the side walls.Currently my
favourite is the Goodyear 159.

p.s thanks for replies on mixing greases

Daren;

I have 8.75s on the front and 9.50s on the rear. I did this when we first
bought the ol' boy because it needed 2 tires. I figured it would be best to
jhavbe the best toires up front, and knew that would help performance and
speedo accuracy. I'll put 8.75s on the rear when these 9.50s wear dopwn a
bit.

Dave, One point of GMC protocol: GM built all of these units as FEMALES.
Please try to refer to them in the feminine gender only. :-)

Emery,
Thanks for sharing that. It's gone into my "Keeper File."

I don't know about YOUR rig, but mine sure as hell sounds like a woman --
especially that last one about the money... :-)

Installed my new 9.50 x 16.5's today. I am glad I went up the extra
size. I still have enough clearance for every thing to do what it is
supposed to. I determined that, if a tire was going to come apart in the
wheel well, it didn't matter what size it was it was going to cause a
whole bunch of subsequential damage. I like the way the larger tires
fill the opening more than the 8.75's. I am putting the 9.50's on the
front also. The larger circumference only changes my speedo reading by
4.88%. I don't think many, if any, feds will give me a ticket for doing
52 in a 50 zone. Darren
