Tires

This is my two cents worth on the tire situation. Being a cheap penny
pinching tightwad, I cringe at the thought of paying $100.00+ for a
tire. I have always run General tires, LT225/75R 16 Ameri550 AS. These
tires have taken me all over the U.S., Canada and to Alaska and back
with no problems. The ride is smooth and I have no road wander problem.
I buy new tires every 5 years, no matter how much tread is left.
Generals cost $89.00 a piece. I have had my GMC weighed, when it was
loaded to live in for 6 months, at Interstate weigh stations and by
Aweigh We Go at the FMCA rally's and the most overweight I have been is
260 lbs.

Have you always used General tires on your coach? If not, what
advantages did you notice when you switched?

Curious to learn how much coach wiggle you experience when traversing
asphalt pavement ruts and wandering over the joint between the edge of
the pavement and paved shoulders on Interstate type roads with the
General's? How is tire noise inside the coach when driving at
Interstate speeds going down the highway?

Jim,

Do you get strange looks when you pull in there to get weighed? I
bet they ask you what you're doing.

FWIW, the Generals are the only 16.5 inch "D" load range tire that I've
never had a problem with. They just don't make them in a 16.5 inch "E"
load range. My father and I run them on both our motorhomes.

Paul, my coach exhibits very little wiggle. My father's drives like a
snake. My guess is he needs some steering work, but he never
listens to me(funny thing - he says the same about me).

I should add that my coach will "track" a seam in the pavement, but
grooved pavement doesn't seem to affect it much. I'm planning on
switching to Alcoa's this summer and will probably try the 16 inch
Generals(E L/R) just because I've had good experience with the 16.5's.
