Al when I last checked 225 Michelin XPS ribs were available at Sams Club for
about $115 each

If you want I can check for actual tires, availablity and costs for you here
in NY.

Check with Bridgestone again Al. Mine are 16" All Steel including side
walls. I mentioned in an earlier note I thought they were Bridgestone
187's but I could be wrong.

Tom, Wayne, JR, Claude,

Thanks for the information on tires and the offer to get some in New
York, Tom. I will check about Bridgestone 16" all steels again. It's not
that G159s and XPSs Ribs are not available at all here but difficult to get.
Myself and two other GMC owners in Ontario got similar answers. "It'll take
two weeks - there's two in Winnipeg, three in Montreal, etc., etc." They
used to be available over night - good to know if you blow one on the road.
The Costco price club can no longer get either XPS size but seems to have no
trouble with other Michelin tires.

I was curious if there is a shortage or other problem that others may
have heard of.

Al, go to www.tirerack.com

I bought 14 Bridgestones from them and the price including shipping to FL
was less than Alex Sirum pays his distributor. There was no state tax or
disposal fees, the tires were shipped right out of Bridgestone's
warehouse and they had fresh date codes. The folks at Tire Rack were very
helpful and knowledgable.

You might get them droop shipped somewhere near the border and save you
some hassle.

Jerry, it was too long ago to be relevent; 1996. The tires were $100 each
plus $6 shipping. They were the 16" D rated steel/poly Bridgestone. I put
45k miles on them before one blew out taking some fibreglas with it. At
the time the Okeechobee distributor was charging dealers $122.

Tire Rack advertises in the car mags. If they don't list the tire you are
interested in, call them or go to their web site.

Dave,

The Bridgestone all steel is R187 as you say, according to the
Bridgestone website Patrick posted. I'll check again at the local dealer but
I don't think they're available in Canada.

After posing this question before, my mail server crashed & I probably
missed some responses. Has anyone had firsthand experience with P245/R75
tires on Alcoa wheels? If so, were there any airbag or fender clearance or
other problems? What brand & series? I am not concerned with drive
ratios, wear factors, ride height, or bearing loading, as I am taking these
issues under consideration. My boneheadness is already well established
.

Steve,
My question would be; Have you looked at the manufacturers
recommendations on wheel width? IIRC the standard size tires
are about the biggest size recommended for the six inch wheel.
This will probably stir up a firestorm of controversy, but I
really think we need about a seven-inch wheel, particularly on
the front end. Spreading the tire beads out enhances the stability
as has been proven by any kind of race car that has to turn
corners.(I know about drag cars and they are NOT stable in any
direction) These wiggle-wagons need all the help they can get.
My experience on roadracing cars is that when you can't get the
tire spread out to the rim, then MAYBE it's too wide.
That's my opinion.

You may really have a clearance problem. I'm running 235's and they just clear
the T's in the back, as long as the air-bags are up to regular pressure. If
they are down, the tires rub the T.
