My '74 GMC tires have hit the 5 year mark and its time to replace the tires.

MICHELIN LT225/75R16115/112R AGILIS CC tires are discounted through FMCA @ $178.50 + FET each (retail @$255.00) which comes out to a calculated 30% discount. TireRack, on the other hand, sells the same tire retail for $212.89 + FET. FMCA price pencils out to roughly $34.00 a tire difference with a $204.00 overall savings. Either purchase still requires a separate charge for mounting, balancing, tire disposal and any local or state tax.

Has anyone here used the FMCA tire discount? Any issues?

I had a big diesel pusher with 22.5 inch tires and total bill a couple years ago was pushing 4 grand. Got new tires through FMCA and it was seamless and saved me a bunch and I had them mounted at Les Schwab. Not sure you can do that now but I was very happy with the whole transaction.

Thanks for the post. I suspect FMCA is using MSRP as their baseline not retail. Other tire retailers are about the same price as TireRack. I have a local commercial tire store for delivery of the tires but I don’t know much about their mounting/balancing successes.
 
I gave up looking for a decent price on Michelin’s so I ordered 6 from America’s Tire then installed today. The last set were dated 12/13 and 6/14 so they were due for replacement. These new tires resolved much of the wonky steering issues but the MH still tends to wander on occasion. Now I can drive it with confidence and start on roof paint and roof AC replacement.

Amen to that! I purchased this beast 6/19 from the original owner son who replaced the tires before he sold it to me. Unfortunately, just about everything has aged out and has been sitting since then while getting repairs done to keep it safe and driveable.
 
After I switch out the steering column, dash panel and passenger flooring, I need to focus on the fresh water system. It has some sort of funky growth in the drain system that has me concerned. I don’t know enough about that part of the system but I suspect I will need to pull out the rear mattress and inspect/replace everything regarding the water system.

Nice, I just ordered 7 Alcoas from Buy Truck Wheels and ordered 7 Michelins from Americas Tire .... Went with the 225/75R16C 121/120R Agilis CrossClimate, cheaper and I like the tread design better.

I believe those are directional tires but I could be wrong. I had directional tires on my Corvettes during the 80’s and could not rotate side to side only front to back.
 
Yes, they are directional, however I usually need to replace tires for age rather than wear. Besides rotation from front to rear to mid to front should give good results.
 
I got my tires through walmart - Westlake - just fine, no issues and inexpensive. Did the airsoft beads for balancing and drives nice, tracks well at 65. Nothing to copare it to really, never driven another GMC and my old tires and suspension I shouldn't have been driving on at all much less hwy speeds. I figure for first few years while I work on it and drive more local than anywhere else, camping here in CO etc, that they should be fine.

E's are so common and inexpensive. I don't even know if you can get a D rated tire anymore so it's a moot point but they are rated at just over 3042 lb, not much less than E's at 3200

225/75R16C 121/120R Agilis CrossClimate, Load rating is almost 3200 lb, it's a light commercial truck tire. Says load range E on the side in the photos anyway
 
You are correct, I researched the information and the 225 75R16C is indeed a load range E tire. I was not familiar with the metric equivalent. Apparently they are a directional summer tire, not all season.
 
Last time I had to buy tires (because the lower control arm took one out), the agent and I spoke a short time and I mentioned that I didn't really need LRE. It took him about 3 keystrokes to say that he could get LRD, and they were like 3$ less and would take 2 weeks to get here. With our very light 23, we could go to LRD all around.... and maybe save about 16$ on a full set that I hope to never again buy.

How do you like the ride and handling. I am looking to replace all 6 and Michelins are more expensive. I prefer Michelins, but man, what an investment!
