Not to start any rumors or long threads - just a suggestion.
I have 7 Goodyear G159s on my Palm Beach. They were bought 16 months ago
and 6 have about 20k miles on them. Wear is good with plenty of tread left.
THe sidewalls are fine - EXCEPT there is a radial band that is about 3/4"
wide and runs from the bead to the edge of the tread. The band is defined
by two small areas of significant sidewall checking. I have 3 tires on the
rear with the same exact pattern. I just noticed them because the lighting
was different. I don't know if they were there on the way to Albuquerque or
not, but I do a walk around at every gas fill and didn't see them. All of
the bands are about 6" away from the G159 impression on the sidewall - all
in the same location. The center of the band is softer than the rest of the
sidewall when I press on it with my thumb.
I plan to get by a Goodyear place this week to ask them what's up (and find
out where the belts for the steel sidewalls are joined).
No paranoia from me yet, but I did want to let you all know so that you can
check your own tires. I'll let you know what transpires. (any tire experts
out there?)
