Tire shop instructions?

So, dropping my coach at the tire shop for the first time, what do I tell
them?

If jack rather than lift, do the front from the center, not the sides.

Deflate the air bags as soon as the coach is supported by the lift.

Tell them the torque values for the lug nuts (150 for the 2 part Alcoa hub
centred wheels?).

In the 18 years that I have had Alcoa wheels I never knew that there was a torque sequence for the wheels. I just used a star pattern in 2 stages and rechecked after first trip.

Ron,

It more than likely they will change one wheel at a time; at least that's what the tire shop in Knoxville did when I brought them
the Kingsley.

I told them that they could put a floor jack under the center of the bogie to change the rear tires and under the lower control arms
to change the front tires.

I told them to raise the front just enough to get the tire off and back on and not to raise it any higher or risk cracking a $1000
plus windshield.

The torque for Alcoa lug nuts is stamped into the lug nuts; it is 140 ft lb. Have them use a torque wrench not an impact wrench with
torque stick.

Do be sure to tell them to deflate the air bags as soon as the jack under
the bogie (ONLY) takes the coach weight -- you'll probably have to show
them how. If you don't, and have Bilstein shocks, they may well be damaged
-- DO tell them that.

Do insist on a torque wrench being used for 140 ft-lbs on the lug nuts --
tightened in a star pattern.

Do SHOW them where to lift in the center of the main crossmember.

Newbie question, can you inflate the air bags to max, block the pivot
point and release the air to change tires without jacking?

I've been using the same tire shop for ~~30 odd years - second generation of the family runs it now. With their approval, I stand there and direct
the tech on how to get the wheels off and on without damage. They're used to big aluminum wheel;s mounting and balancing, alls I do is direct lifting
and lwering and bolt torque technique. Two tires a year, then take a three or four year time out and start over with the oldest.

When I buy tires, one of the things I include in instructions for handling my coach is "PLEASE mount the tires so that the date code is facing the
outside...NOT the inside of the wheel". You only need to crawl under the coach once to realize that those date code numbers are hard to get at and see
when they are on the inside. JWID. :)

Mike's right -- be assertive. I, personally, failed to do that at my last
tire purchase. During the Chippewa Falls Convention in the Fall of 2014, I
bought a set of tires at a local tire store. The professionalism of the
staff, including the individual who was working on my coach, caused me to
let my guard down. Only later, miles away, did I find that their "fine
equipment" had seriously marred the faces of all 6 of my Alcoas. Those
scars are still there, and always will be. They're too deep to possibly
polish out. I probably should have returned there and raised Cain, but
didn't; I'll just have to live with them and chalk it up as another lesson
learned.
