"PS Came out this morning and found my right front tire
tread starting to separate about 1 inch between the
treads, you can peel back the tread with your fingers.
I guess it's 6 new 16.5" All steel E's for Homer tomorrow.
I'd order Alcoa's but I can't justify the added cost and
the wrong tire size."

Late this spring I had a tread seperation as well.

When I bought the coach last spring I was not
impressed with the tires.

Last winter I went through them all with a fine tooth
comb.

Managed to get 2 replaced under warranty due to
sidewall cracks.

The date stamps told me that 3 of the remaining
tires were getting pretty old (date stamp does
not indicate decade so was that 94 or 84?)

However, under careful inspection no visible
problems with the rubber.

Thought I might squeeze 1 year before springing
for more new round rubber.

About a month ago I took the first shackdown cruise
of the year.

A moderately sunny day with the high about 70
degrees F. My theory is that the Sun shining
on the spare tire resulted in the major tread
seperation. Only a theory, however the tire
definitely was properly inflated and was not
carrying any weight

2 new "E"'s mounted on Alcoas have now
relegated the other 2 non cracked tires of an
undetermined age to the status of marginal
spares.

The moral of the storey is one I think we have all
heard before. When tires become rotten they do
not necessarily provide any visible warning prior
to failure. =
