Thanks Emery for your update from the tire
seminar at Rayne.

Helpful for those of us unable to make the event.

It sounds like Don gave the same talk that he did last Fall in Forest
City. Based on your notes, one would not need to attend the sessions.
You told us the key points of what he said! Keep those reports coming.

Emery thanks for the session updates. I miss not being there.

But what you don't see is the audience interaction with the experts, the
technology changes that are coming and have happened recently. I found I
learned more from talking to the other 100 GMC owners that were attending
the sessions much like here except they are not lurking. Nothing beats
the eye-to-eye exchange of information and seeing what they have done to
their coaches.

I come back with cameras full of ideas that I still have not seen other
places, like;
surge, tracker toad brakes,
fail-safe water heater timers,

Rallys are where the rubber meets the road, these guys drive them not just
fix them... I am not much of a social animal, but the technical input at
these Rallys is excellent.

Gosh, guess I should go to the next one ;>)

I heard Don at the San Antonio Rally, and that's what convinced me to go
with G 159s and the Alcoas. After his talk, I checked my tires, and they
were 8 plus years old. Enough of that, so I bought the tires and rims.

Of course I would rather be there at the rally. Forest City was an event that
I really enjoyed. On the other hand if you can't make a rally it is sure nice
to get reports from those that are present.

I won't be able to make the one on the Left Coast in the Fall, but hopefully
there will be one next Spring that I can make it to.

where is the next east rally ???? I would like to make one of those also.

Rumor had it that it would be in Niagara Falls Canada next Spring. At least
that's what I heard. They should know at the rally by now where it's going to be
held. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for something in my neck of the woods
because I don't have enough free time to drive to the West Coast for a rally.

I haven't been able to sleep since you reported Don's analysis of the
Michelin XPS LRE on Alcoas. That's the exact setup I just spent big bucks
to install on my GMC. Sure hope this is another urban myth or I just made
a big mistake. BTW did Don give any specifics on the reported problems
Michelin is having with the XPS? And I wonder why Michelin is recommending
the XPS for the GMC with 6' rims? Thanks,

I would like to know as well, we have had our coach for 12 years now
and all we have ever bought for it are the XPS RIB design tires.
the only tire problems we have had were the PO tires, everyone we
replaced has been with the XPS and no problems..( on steel rims)

Do you find it hard to maneuver at slow speeds with your 6' rims? How much do
tires cost?

Ron,
I believe your question was to me, and the answer is " no I don't have any trouble
at all maneuvering at slow speeds". The tires and Alcoas now have about 1Kmiles
on them and they are inflated to 80 psi cold. They are Jim Bounds' trued and
balanced and are running very smoothly. Why are you apparently concerned about
low speed maneuverability?

Sorry, my previous post was a feeble attempt at a joke. Some times my fingers don't
transmit the humor I intended. The posting said that the rims were 6' wide, not 6".
I am sure you would find problems turning with 6' wide tires! I am sure that your
setup works fine.
My D range radial Generals (not all steel) on non-radial rims are no joke. I have to
do something about it but it is hard to throw away new (7 month old) tires put on the
vehicle by PO that have less than 1200 miles on them... and they look so pretty.

Thanks for the advice. At least we seem to mostly agree on the Alcoas sometimes,
usually on occasion.

I hope you're right and Emery Stora is wrong. In his report from Rayne he said the following
"Future GMCMI conventions are Mt. Hood, OR this fall. Laughlin, NV spring 2001; Ontario
(near NY State) in fall 2001."

I had originally thought the Spring convention would be in Ontario, but Emery's post said the
Fall of 2001. I hope you're right and he's wrong because I don't want to wait 1 1/2 years
before we get to go to another convention.

I have to leave on my D rated tires.
