Hi

I need 6 new tires for my newly acquired '76 Royale.

I have narrowed down my choices to two brands:

Bridgestone R273 E 8.75/16.5R at the driveaway price of $890
Firestone R4S E 8.75/16.5r at the driveaway price of $690

I am leaning towards the Firestones -- but I need some feedback
from anyone who has experience with these 2 brands.

My major concern is blow-out protection

Pete,
I have just put 3K miles on a set of Firestone Steeltex Radial R4S
LT225/75R16 M/S Load range E tires. This tire is almost the same size
as the stock 8.75/16.5 tire that came on you coach, almost no speedo
error. When I got my Alcoa's from Buskirks it was one of the tires that
they recommended. Works great and ride good.

Pete, as you may know, I have a bias toward the Bridgestone tires but
since Bridgestone owns Firestone I would think they would be good also.
Having said that, I would wonder why the $200 or $33 differance per tire?

If they both carry the same weight at same tire pressure, I would guess
you can go with the lower priced tire. I personally would stick with the
Bridgestones.

Went the Firestone route here, only about 50 miles on the new tires so
can't provide longevity information. Went with V
rated Firehawks instead of Bridgestones on our 560 SL last year to save
a ton of money and have been very happy with
them. Larry

I have been using the Michilan 8.75/16.5R, XPS rib, load range E tires. So
far so good, 10K+ miles and still looking like new. They where about $140
each (couple years ago).

FWIW: Our transportation dept has moved to firestones . They run this tire
on our small school buses. The director reports very few and often no
problems.
