Tire Problem

We have a strange problem. We have worn two tires out on the
front tandem wheel on the passenger's side. The first tire was a
load range 'E' while the other tires were load range 'D'. We were
told by several tire people that that shouldn't make a difference.
We finally replaced it with a tire (load range 'D') from the front.
After about 2000 miles, we noticed that this tire is almost bald in
spots. The other 3 are not showing that kind of wear. Also, we
noticed that a stud has broken on that wheel. Not sure when it
broke. Any suggestions? Could have been broken when the tire
was put on, but if so, we weren't told. We have new shocks in the
back, bearings repacked, new brakes.

Correct, tire won't make the difference.

My guess would be that the wheel is out of alignment.
I had same problem, same wheel.
Had it 'aligned' several times locally. Finally got it done in Santa Rosa
and they literally bent the back bogies into alignment. Has been better
since but will be getting it checked again soon.

Mine wore weird. I don't know if the tire(wheel) bounces or what. When the
rear is out of whack in some way you can usually feel it in you seat, i.e.
butt as you're driving.

Stud can break many ways.
Be sure to check that holes arn't elongated/worn.

I would take a guess that the tires are of different diameters and maybe
different manufacturers. You should never mix tires or load ranges on the
bogies or the fronts. Fronts should be the same tires and all bogies the
same. If its bald in spots sounds like a bad shock.

The right front (passenger side) bogey is the one that gets damaged most
of the time. As you go around corners and you cut them close you can
hit the curb and bend the bogey control arm. My guess not seeing your
coach is that the arm is bent and you really need a 6 wheel alignment.
Another rule that I use is that I never have the lug nuts put on with an
air impact wrench. When I first got my coach I had to heat the nuts
with a torch and then use a impact wrench to remove them. Imagine if I
have been out on the road and had a flat. Always tighten your lug nuts
with a hand wrench. Jim Bounds @1-877-275-4462 does it at a reasonable

would have the studs checked for stretch and replace if bad.

I have had the same problem. I was using the Michelin XBS-RIB tires =
recommended by Cinnabar, and had there alignment. =20
