Further to you post of blowing out your E range tire -that really
surprises me.So I am wondering a couple of things. Were your tires both
E range and steele belted on the tred and the sidewalls? And what were
the air pressures you always travelled with along with total weight of
coach? Could any of the reasons for the blow out be found in these
answers?

Just wondering and interested,
Claude

Hi Claude!

Yes - it really suprized me too! I have around 200,000
miles in GMC's since 1977 and have NEVER had a
blowout.

The tires were JUST "E" Workhorses. Steel tread but
NOT sidewalls. But with my first GMC I used "D" rated
tires for years until they recommended "E", then
switched (just to "E" - not ALL Steel).

These were also real good tires. Well over 50% of read
left. Absolutely ZERO uneven tread wear.

The only thing I did was "rotate" tires just before
blowouts. Even kept same side. Just front 2 and far
rear 2. After losing front tire (one of the best
ones), I then kept 2 best on rear (far rear). Lost
second one in less than 150 miles after first.

All 6 tires were "E" all bought brand new at same time
from Goodyear Truck Center. I always keep 75-80lbs in
my tires (I dropped to 65lbs for a very brief period -
500-750 miles - during the "Big Tire Discussion") But
felt no improvement so went back.

I typically run 80 Hot front & 75 Hot rear. That is
where they were. We run to the heavy side of GR WT.
But not excessive.

So go figure!

Very curious

Now 100% All Steel
Blowouts not on my favorite things to do list!

Mike - many of us are running at 80 psi cold pressure. Hot pressure
is probably up to 10 psi more than cold pressure. GM's stickers say
Cold pressure. Normally you should set the pressure when cold as the
hot temperature can vary a lot more depending on when you measure it.
So you are probably actually running 70 front and 65 rear. When you
were running 65 was this hot? if so, you were probably at about 55
cold.
