I always keep an eye out when I'm on the road for
fellow GMC'ers. Vacation time is here on the Oregon
Coast so there are LOTS of RV's to check out. I found
one GMC today parked beside the highway, back end flat
on the ground. After turning around and stopping I
found out that he had blown a rear most driver side
tire -- brand new D rated tire from Les Schwab. He said
that he had been smelling something hot bet did not
stop to check it out. He probably would have found an
under inflated tire. I noted that he had a carrier
attached into his trailer hitch which was loaded with
gear. My guess is that the rear end was way over
weight, especially for D tires. His name is Tim ( a
meat distributor) from Coeur de Alene, ID and says that
he has his coach on the register (production model #33
i believe he said). Anyway, seeing the mess a simple
blown tire makes of fiberglass I'm glad I have E tires
and will change them next year for a fresh set!! Had
this happened quarter of a mile farther along he would
have been on a two lane bridge where Hwy 101 crosses
the bay -- sure would have made a mess of the holiday
traffic since it took AAA about an hour to get to him.
He's on his way now, sans skirt and wheel well..
LESSON: Watch rear end weight, E rated tires, check
pressure, stop when you smell smoke.
