Tip for installing engine vent

I bought some stainless engine vents from Sirum and am looking for tips on cutting the hole to install. I’ve seen the tips for installing as high as possible, and as far back as possible. I’m thinking of figuring out the best placement, then putting masking tape down where the cut will go, then drawing the cut outline over the tape. Drill or hole saw the corners, then a dremel with a diamond disk blade for cutting the rest. Any other pointers? I want to get it right, as there aren’t really any do-overs!

My two cents: It's more decorative than functional. If you look at a few coaches that have the "shark gills", as I call them, you'll see that about half of the width is blocked by internal structure (wheel well). My understanding is that the installation locations aren't a high-pressure area when under way anyhow. If you're having trouble keeping the engine cool, there are better modifications you can make, assuming you've already confirmed that everything is working as it did from the factory (fan, radiator, a thermostat with good flow like the Robertshaw, etc.). One excellent mod is to add ducting to ensure that as much air as possible goes through the radiator rather than around it. @Mike S. has the details.

So, think twice before cutting into the bodywork.
