Timing is on the money, engine stalls now

I changed the timing chain, checked and set the timing with a light. On my
test drive, the engine ran great (30 minutes in the neighborhood). When I
made my final turn back to the house, the engine stalled at an intersection.
It would crank and run, but only at a fast idle. I am thinking it is
ignition related I have the HEI ignition. Is it reasonable that at an idle
the plugs are not getting enough spark, but at a faster speed they are?
When the engine was cool, it ran better that when it got hot. The probems
remind me of a coil that is going bad. Does that make sense? Anyone have
any other ideas?

TIA
