the point I was making mark is that you do not get a $80 timing chain set of
the same quality for $39.
Take the Timken front wheel bearings for instance. You can buy a set for the
GMC from your local supplier cheaper than from Cinnabar but they are not the
same bearing even though they have the exact same part number. The
tolerances are different.
Many many companies make after market replacement parts with various brand
names on the box and the same part numbers on the part. they are not
necessarily the same tolerance parts or the same quality. Just cheaper.
In a part as critical as the timing chain and gears I would not take a
chance with my engine.
I looked through brake pads for my Sable several weeks ago, and Raybestos
had 4 different quality of brake pads for varying prices. the only apparent
difference was the color sprayed on them. The silver line series from parts
America were not the same pad as the silver line series from my local
supplier (the local supplier ones were better finish etc).
