I've seen very few GMC's that still have them. Originally there was a heatshield mounted on the exhaust pipe. ( Not sure they were on all years. ) I made my two out of 1/8th inch aluminum. 28" long, and 6.5" tall. Made the in an el shape. Attached them to the bottom of the floor with 3 screws. They greatly reduce the heating of the fuel in the gas tanks. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale Iowa

It will be. I recall reading somewhere that it was only found on California spec one though. not sure if thats correct, just mentioning it.

I have one and no name he was right. They were only on GMCs first delivered to California. The originals were not attached to the floor but were
attached directly to the exhaust pipe on about a 1" stand off. I re-did the standoffs on mine about 10 years ago.

Pics of OEM shield installed. Our coach has the CA option although it was originally sold in MS.

New heat shields are available from Jim K at Applied. I installed a set on my coach and they work as advertised. They did lower the temp on my
tanks.

I fabricated heat shields out of some galvanized stovepipe. Flattened and bent to an ell shape to cover above the exhaust and vertically between pipe
and gas tank. Easily mounted to exhaust pipe by drilling holes in the shield to align with the u-bolts of a couple muffler clamps. Easy one day
project (I'm slow), seems to keep tanks cooler.

Our 73-23 had one and it was fastened between the frame rails and to the wood floor. I copied it and added one by the other tank. This coach was
sold in Michigan and converted to California spec in the late 70's.

When I installed a 3 inch exhaust on the 77, the heat shield mountings no longer fit. I made new ones, a little bit longer, so they fit between the
crossmembers, bent a 90 degree tab on each end and bolted them to the crossmember. The stretch had ones much like that in it when we got it.

Sorry, no pictures, John

I installed the white powdercoated ones. Did not help. Installing the e pump on the Aux did help.
