I just reviewed my web page and Mr. Bearing (Ken Thoma) recommends using
Timken set #23 at .006 for old hubs. The recommended clearance seems to
be .0095.

He says on the tape to give him a call and he will tell you about the
bearings. you might give him a call and see what his current feelings are
about bearings.

Think that advice is incorrect. there is no way of knowing what the
tolerances of "old" hubs or knuckles are. You are risking bearing failure
using that advice. I am sure we could come up with tables for different
size hubs and knuckles and respective bearing set axial clearances.

That was not advice, that is what he said on tape, and .0095 is what
Cinnabar says. What Thoma said was "give him a call any time and he will
discuss it with you to see what is right. He is the best and has done
hundreds of bearings, he is the real expert.

will also do the whole job for you at a very reasonable cost.

Buy the way, should we expunge set 35 from the advice archives ???

That advice is, most assuredly, CORRECT. I was told that very thing by Mr.
Thoma himself recently. He has made a living by attending to GMC Motorhome
owner's "front wheel bearings, hubs, and knuckles" needs for many
years. If he wasn't right, I don't imagine he'd have the excellent
reputation that he maintains.

I've never known him to switch horses in mid-stream either.

Billy I am not in the least not recognizing Mr. Thomas abilities. However
the remark that was posted "I just reviewed my web page and Mr. Bearing (Ken
Thoma) recommends using
Timken set #23 at .006 for old hubs" is absolutely and positvely not
recommended. That is akin to saying go buy a LT225R16 tire for a car with
100,000 miles on it without knowing what kind of a car it was for. The
dimensions of the hub and knuckle determine the axial clearance that is
needed.. And by the way what is "an old hub" mean?
