Thermostat temperature

Hello GMCers,
Even though I was the first in this round to recommend the 195 degree
thermostat, I don't think it will make much difference as long as you
use the high performance type with the large passage. I think both camps
are doing an excellent job at defending their side, i.e. 180, 195 or
even 160, the bottom line is that ounce the engine is above 195 on a hot
day pulling a load, all 3 thermostats will be wide open anyway. The
thing that is important here, is that your cooling system is optimal and
all other temperature related items are in top shape such as your fuel
mixture and timing. Also, throw in Mobil 1 for extra protecting. Haven't
you seen that fry pan commercial where they fry conventional oil and
Mobile 1 in a fry pan? By the way, if anyone is looking for a killer
deal on Vericon GMC Motorhome windshields, I will be letting you know
the source as soon as I get my pair. They are a steal at $300 each side.
Way cheaper than Alex or ??? I don't want the place flooded until I get
my pair first. I got my right and am waiting on the left. How's that for
being one way? Will let you know soon, you will have to pick them up
yourself at that price. I broke my windshield on the passenger side by
jacking up the right side and then the left instead of together like
some people tell me. Anyone else had a similar experience? The manual
does not tell you to jack the thing up in the center but it probably is
a good idea to prevent putting a bind on the windshields. I'm sure age
of the glass played a part in it too.
Regards, Phil Swanson (P.S.
Stick to 195, maybe I'll make a bumper sticker.)

I am anxiously waiting to hear more about your Vericon windshield "killer
deal" as I need a pair for my 75 Glenbrook project.

This has been an interesting thread, especially those coolant temperature
reports gathered with digital thermometers while underway.

It seems to me digital gauges to monitor coolant, engine oil and
transmission oil temperatures will be a good investment. May help to get
off the throttle before disaster strikes.

It would be interesting to hear what engine oil and transmission oil
temperatures are doing under various loads and driving conditions from those
who have been monitoring it.
