This speaker thread has me yearning for something better than the current
GM/Delco crystal set I've got now...

Anyway, I've had several GM products with the Delco/Bose sound system, which
was very good, even to my tin ear. Has anyone Bose'd their coach, and if so,
how?

> Hello Mark;

Mark, funny you mention this. I am in the process of doing just such an
Installation (Bose). I was planning to test it on the road, in fact I was
leaving tomorrow for Wyoming when a health emergency in the family stopped
me for now.

Its not a Delco/Bose, its Sony/Bose. I am testing my installation of a
Sony XR-C6120 with Bose Accoustimass 5 Series III right now. This is a 3
piece home speaker system with 2 satellite cube speakers and a bass module.
The problem is were to put the bass module. Why these home speakers? I
like having the ability to easily re-arrange them for optimal sound. You
only need move the satellites & their tiny. They do sound better than most
car speakers too. I am not too cramped for space yet and have put it (the
bass module) under a dinette seat. The 2 satellites are mounted at the
entrance door and front kitchen cabinet. They flood the whole place with
really high quality sound. I may add a second set behind the driver &
passenger seat if need be, but initial test lead me to believe they wont be
needed. Power comes from a 260 watt Sony amp which you really need to
power these speakers. Car radio amps are usually rated at incredibly high
noise levels and you will need an auxiliary amp with good specs to power
them. The radio/tape deck has audio inputs for the TV and VCR or you can
plug your portable CD in. I also put a Sony 10 CD changer in that the radio
controls. Both the amp and the CD changer right now are under the couch
behind the driver seat. The radio is living with the CB under my little
map table. If I decide I will live with this, I'll permanently mount it in
the dash, if not, the radio and amp, etc will find new homes in my cars.
Its probably not for everyone, and if someone would have asked me 3 months
ago, I would have said I never would do such a thing. But when I recently
took the GM out for a 1,000 mile trip and was coming home, I stopped in
Lancaster, Pa at a Sony outlet (Rt. 30 & 896) and they had exceptional deals
on car audio. For example, the radio was just $60. I have seen it in
stores like Best Buys for more than $150.

I also am putting an Altec-Lansing ASC48 speaker system in the back.
Its a real good computer speaker system similar to the Bose, just smaller.
It needs 120V but has incredible sound for small components. I may go down
one size to an ASC45 however as the bass module is smaller and in the small
area of the bedroom, its does the job. Both are inexpensive. Anyhow, thats
what I am doing for now. walter bright 76 GB.

Thom,
Just installed a new system in my sons Impala SS, interesting to see the
direction of auto sound the last few years.

I went with a Hiphonics "Samson" amp bridged mono into 2 ohms, Autotech 4
channel amp, Coustic electronic crossover and EQ., Alpine CD controller w/
changer and Polk speakers. The sub box is a clamshell MTX 2x12" set up
(4th order, speakers inside the box) with a twin ported outlet.

The rear view mirror is rendered useless when the music is playing,
actually sounds good with Tom Petty and Lynard Skinnard amd Manhime
Steamroller as well as that techno stuff my son listens to.

Been saving some MI speakers for the dumpster. I have a pair of 15"
drivers with 22lb. magnets that will do the trick!

Yes, my ears are blown out to the point I can't hear many things, but it
was fun getting there! And yes, I like loud music still!

Somebody want to build that ultimate GMC system, lets talk,
