Interestingly, except the gas, I am pretty sure most places in Europe
are less expensive than in the US. Especially, if you start to compare
places like Portugal or Croatia with California

:-)

I have heard, that people need more than gas to enjoy a vacation ;-) And
yes, iirc, there were gas stations in California where gas was more
expensive than in some places in Europe, depending on what gas you want.

This will get me the Stink Eye from some Westerners, but the lure California - particularly S CA is purely imaginary in my case. I've lost nothing
there, though occasionally I get to the area to see kinsmen. Gas isn't so much the problem as getting the coach across the Pond in the first place.
Those of us on fixed incomes have to remember when our Rich Uncle took us to Europe a time or two.

There is great beauty in parts of CA, but even though I live in a neighboring state, it is not my favorite destination. We have been to the coast in
the motorhome, but most of the best natural areas and camping are east of the Sierras.

Go North young man. Come, visit, spend tourism dollars, then, return to
your comfort zone. GOVERNOR TOM McCALL used to say. Don't even consider
moving here. Used to be a billboard along Interstate Five just inside
Oregon. Simply said "Dont Californicate Oregon". That idea still alive and
well here.
