Our second trip with our GMC - The Flying Dutchman

Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Flight from Düsseldorf over Atlanta to Tucson, AZ
Long stop over .... been a trip, including taxi drive,of much more the 24 hours .... very tired.

Wednesday, February 27

After a journey of 25 hours .... last plain took off an hour later because of brakes problem ... we arrived safely in Tucson, where our good friends
Carol and Armand waited for us at the airport.

Yesterday we had to adapt after that long flight, but still got the GMC at Calypso Automotive, where they did some maintenance, replacing Alternator
and worked on a ground and flasher indicator problem. The FiTech cable was replaced and is some better now, but still not at a optimum.
It turned out that the excessive stiffness was from a new throttle cable that was nicked during install ..... !!
After that we drove back to Marana and went on arranging stuff, filling tanks etc ...
Weather was excellent today sun shining !!

Today the parking break has to adjust just a bit and some shopping to be done.
Just now sun already starts shining and it looks like a bright day again.

Tuesday, February 28

Some R&R ... some shopping etc ...

We went getting the GMC, yesterday at Calypso Automotive and Jim there took his time explaining and showing everything, he did and we even got help
installing that new house battery.

Afterwards we got to fill up .... 43 gallon ... 85$ ... so that GMC tanks were really empty.
At a rate of 1.99 a gallon that's not bad.

In the rest of the day we got groceries, did some cleaning and in de evening we went for a nice dinner, with Carol, Armand and Barbara, who came
also to visit us. We enjoyed the evening together.

Friday, March 1

This morning shortly after 9 am we drove off, leaving Dove Mountain and Carol and Armand, behind ... they wouldn't accompany us this time. "Sonny the
Sunseeker" was waiting for them on the parking lot and eager to travel again.
But this time in a different direction.

Along the I10 traffic was busy but not that bad and we passed, Benson, Deming and stopped somewhere near Las Cruses ... weather was good and not too
hot, and only some side winds.

... the AC, who did work yesterday during our short trip to the shopping Mall, very good, refused this time, no reaction, but luckily the blower was
still willing to give us some refreshing air, so that was good ... only after a coffee break that part of the ventilation system, got apparently a day
off, also ... 🤨😔

For sure, the internals of that, by us "repaired" switch shifted every time when used, a bit more out of line.
Yesterday, AC was only in between the NORM and VENT position possible, while last drive last Autumn it was between , or around the NORM position ...
and then the blower also worked.

That working blower at first this morning must have been just at the edge of "still making contact" after the break ... well... it took a Break
itself...

Something to attend too, and yes I just closed up the dash in the afternoon, yesterday ... Mmmmmm ...

But the Flying Dutchman ran nice, I personally found the vacuum some low, after those changes made at Calypso Automotive but I don't exactly remember
the values before.
Now cruising at 65 gave a vacuum of 10 ... and acceleration gave quickly 5 or less ... going downhill I saw 15 at the most.

They did switch off the vacuum advance, leaned the idle more in the menu of the FiTech. And block off plates were installed, an new Alternator some
electrical work, alignment etc ....
But it ran and started nice ... so ...

A second fill up in Deming only needed, $50 and off we went.
The throttle cable is still stiff but only half of what was in the Autumn, could still be improved I hope, but for now the Cruise Control is able to
hold and regulate the speed as it should do, which is a big advantage for the drivers right leg ...
😘😉👍

Saterday, March 2

40 years ago .... we got married.... celebrating it with a glass of wine on the campground Hilltop RV Park in Fort Stockton, outside temps are .....
freezing !!

Yesterday we drove through Las Cruses and drove to the National Border Patrol Museum in El Paso. Nice little and informative museum.

Afterwards we enjoyed driving scenic route down to El Paso, had to stop for a new phone for Marjon, and went on our way in the afternoon, to the Hueco
Tank State Park, were we luckily got the last vacant site.

The rest of the afternoon was enjoying and relaxing the surroundings 😃👍

Sunday, March 4

From El Paso we took the little bypass to Fort Hancook and from there the Flying Dutchman, drove south on the I10 and winds were not to annoying.

I noticed this morning that sometimes in P he doesn't shift past the 2 .... so engine rpm goes up, I helped manually by going to N and then again to
P ..... hmmmmmm
Today happened first at the early morning and several times on the road .... mostly while accelerating some more, pressing the throttle to the max
can't be the cause (Kickdown Switch) because that is with this stiff pedal almost impossible.

On a rest stop we got some unexpected but very nice company from John, from Florida, who pulled up behind us as we were taking a brake. We had a nice
talk and he told us he was also heading for the Tallahassee, GMCMI Meeting.

... here in Texas as we passed Davis Mountains, I10/I20 junction, suddenly, it became very foggy and temps dropped ... believe it or not .... to
almost freezing temps!
.... but still almost no heat .... we are freezing while driving.
Marjon had 2 sweaters and blankets wrapped around .... brrrrrrrr.

I am now defrosting on a nice campsite near Fort Stockton with electricity.

BTW Added the nice Picture John made ....

Monday, March 5

It was freaking cold this last night at Fort Stockton .... freezing ... not only outside but also inside the GMC it was really cold. We had to put our
sweaters on ...

Everybody was amazed over this sudden temp change.
We drove this morning and part of the afternoon to San Antonio, about 300 miles, so we can stay tomorrow here and do some site seeing. We arrived at
the Alamo City RV Park, were we got not only a nice spot, but a lot of free info and brochures.

The bus to town stops right at front of the campground.
The receptionist was in a funny mood ... he asked us if he should wake us for the first bus .... at 5.30 am .... 😆😉
We thanked him for his help, gracefully .... some later busses would be fine too .... LOL

Our clock was at 6 am this morning .... Arizona time, so over here in San Antonio it was already 7 am. Got a good night sleep so I made some
breakfast, Marjon got the benefit of an extra downer .... mine .... and she got finely warm ....

After an hour she also got up. It was nice and cozy inside, outside still chilly, but we did some extra clothes on, even thought we could use our
gloves but forgot as we went to the bus 🚌 24 , that stops right at the RV Park, very convenient ant for a fee of 2,75$ you get a day pass for all
their lines.
Well for 62+ even less ... 1,35$ .... you can't park a Car in downtown for that amount for a few minutes ...

The ride was not bad, but that stop-and-go, made Marjon again a little nauseous, luckily it went away and we started at the Alamo, a Spanish-Mexican
complex were they had a mission, they got in a big battle which became a legend ....
Impressive to see and read how and when all happened.

It was still very cold, but slowly the sun came and after a while, standing in the sun almost was nice!
Second on the todo list, or better the tosee list, is the Riverwalk, this is really amazing and it is worthwhile taking your time as we did, many nice
building, the way they situated all around that river, shaped by men, but not misshaped.

We enjoyed walking, talking and sightseeing this beautiful route along the San Antonio River.

After that walk we got hungry and still had to celebrate our wedding day with a delicious lunch/dinner.
We had a nice skillet with sweet sour chicken and Marjon her favorite salmon with wild rice and broccoli ... jummy 🤗🤪

After this long break we did some walking around the Riverside Shopping Center and at last visited the famous Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, Long with
the Texas Ranger Museum. Very interesting, although too much stuffed animals for my taste.

The ride back in the bus went quickly and it was now even nice whilst in the sun! So back at the RV Park I took some tools, the Batterie Combiner I
bought at Jim 's place and installed it, quite easily, but discovered some thing weird, the house battery wasn't charging, it was a new battery and
big so voltage was still 12,7 but further investigation showed that the charger wasn't working ..... hmmmmm !!

Why ? Last time we used the GMC it worked fine.
So some measuring showed, there was no visual tripped breaker, and measuring at the outlet, no electricity. Although the GMC was plugged in and other
outlets worked fine.

So could that combined breaker for AC and Heather gone bad ? I opened that outlet/switch unit, but could not see any lose wires, nor could measure
some current.

Ok, a temporary solution is in taking a extension cable and connect the Charger to a good source and instantly it started charging and after a 10
minutes also through the combiner, the starter battery. But a 30 minute job became a 1,5 hour job, but also made me realize a new thing has to be
straightened out ....

Tuesday, March 6

Installed a battery combiner.
Yandina Combiner 100, model C100.

Came to a stop at the McDonald Parkinglot I10 W, near Seguin,TX, on the truck and RV parking .

Drove this morning from San Antonio, had to drive max 56 mph 3300 rpm, to not obstruct the traffic too much. drove about 30 minutes, at start at
campground oil pressure was 35-40. Because have absolutely no 3 gear!!

..... then oil pressure dropped first to 20 and while cruising down to parkinglot only some above zero!

While checking saw also a cooling fluid leak somewhere front which splashed a little to the co-driver-side Hood and some below, lost about 1/3 - 1/2
qt

Oil level is good, almost max.
Still think to better reach out and not right away start driving.

I will try to contact Stephen Wilhite, in Seguin, who is on the Blacklist, at first, now going to the gas station to buy some cooling fluid, so I can
add.

Help and suggestion are appreciated ....

Wednesday, March 7

The day began with a decent breakfast at the American Best Value Inn .... we were told the Wheel lift wrecker would come after lunch .... so ....
WRONG!

The guy came unexpectedly after 9 am, did not find us, and left .... so we sat waiting till later in the afternoon, whilst Billy was trying to help us
... and then he came, we had aired up the bags so the GMC was much higher on the back ... but, not high enough for the wrecker driver and he refused
to tow it after consulting with his manager ....

In fact he was right, it could do too much harm, and they had to pay for it, we had the problems ...
So luckily, Stephen who lived in this town who visited us, could call another company, who had a landol with winch, they promised to come tomorrow
morning between 8.30-9 am .... fingers crossed again, to bring us and the GMC to Cedar Park.

I also was lucky in get connected with Paul Arrey and Budd deGroot, who offered their help and assistance too.
Wonderfull. Billy contacted the shop at Cedar Park to tell them we came hopefully tomorrow ....

Here some pictures of the testing and trying to lift the GMC, what did go well, but the safety distance from rear to the ground, due to liability
issues, was too less ...

So we go for another try tomorrow ....

In the meantime the American Best Value Inn gets us as regular customers .... 😉🤨

Friday , March 8

Yesterday a busy day .... San Antonio wrecker company came nice on time 8.40am and it took the driver 40 minutes to get the GMC secured ... he was
very thoroughly ...
The drive to Cedar Park was about two hours going over the toll roads ...

At Cedar Park Don Virta Garage, first Diagnose made it clear engine and transmission has to come out ....
He will take the whole clip out....

We got us a rental RV for the next 4 weeks.
Picking it up tomorrow.....

Saterday, March 9

4 weeks a rental of Cruise America booked and this morning with the help of Paul Arrey, he brought us to San Antonio, we picked it up, then a ride
(rush hour .... 2,5 hours) back to Cedar Park. Luckily weather was nice and warm.

We took from the GMC everything we needed and packed it in the Cruise America MH ... took 2 hours.
Talked to Don Virta, he is going over engine and transmission totally, starting Monday, taking the whole clip out.
Also going to try to get FiTech stiff throttle cable better, AC and heating etc ....

Sunday, March 10

Woke up this this morning in the Bastrop State Park, nice and qu..... nice but not that quiet as we hoped, not really too disturbing, but the 71 goes
close by ....
Today we drive in the direction of Houston ....

Early this morning we woke up ... the find out, it wasn't that early anymore ... time again did give us an extra hour to add ... it was not 7.30 it
was already 8.30 on the Bastrop SP, after breakfast we drove in the direction of Houston and finally after the traffic jams, this busy Sunday traffic
let us reach the NASA Space Center....

Monday, March 11

Yesterday, after visiting Houston NASA Space Center, we stopped at a nearby Walmart did some shopping and since it was already late, decided to stay
there. Beside a little traffic noise it was a warm, humid but calm night.

Temp and humidity is raising again and we drove, today, in the morning towards Galveston for a visit and made a walk.
The only thing, parking a RV in Old Downtown is a pain in the ....

Afterwards, we drove north, and decided to take a longer break, after passing Baytown, on the "Pine Lakes RV Resort", a combined RV Park and Inn.
(Scottish Inns & Suites)
Not to much facilities but a laundry, full hookups, Internet .... so sufficient!

Tuesday, March 12

Despite the fact, that The Flying Dutchman isn't around to accompany us ... 😪😦🥴 .... we try to make the best of it. Trying to give you a trip
report and i hope you still enjoy our travel story .....

From Baytown, TX we drove towards Lafayette, LA .... what bad, bad .... again bad condition those roads are ... this is not only uncomfortable, no it
is plain dangerous, and even at most points no speed limits ...

Ok, saying that, it started with very light rains and a little foggy, and after a short gas break (2,12 p/gallon) we went on and arrived in the
beginning of the afternoon in Lafayette.

A light lunch and off we went to the "Vermillionville Living Historic Museum" a really nice visit with many info on the life and habits from the
1765-1890 period, many people from many countries, came and lived here ....

Vermilionville: is a somewhat larger and newer cultural park than Acadian Village. History is also central here: attention is paid to indigenous
people, Creoles (descendants of settlers in general) and Acadians (descendants of French settlers from Canada). The focus is on the period from 1765
to 1890. There are people who demonstrate the traditional professions such as blacksmith, butcher and weaver. You can participate in guided tours,
watch daily shows and music performances and taste traditional food.

Afterwards we stopped at a Royal Panda, restaurant, had a fantastic buffet at a reasonable price and it was wonderful, we were (wonder)FULL .... TOO
... 🥴🤪😌

Wednesday, March 13 - 2019

From Lafayette, LA over Morgan City was an more interesting route, but again parts of the road were worse then in a third World country .... and very
stormy winds were blowing on the side of the MH .... trying to make it alter it's course....
No success ... we reached New Orleans at 12.30 pm.
On a simple RV Park, a few miles from the center of town.
Park d'Orleans RV .... well it is loud, caused by railroads and roads on both sides, the washrooms and showers were at their absolute minimum and not
that very clean, but ... hé, we have a Motorhome with all those things on board and in this case we only needed a stay to get easily to town ... and
the French Quarter and other sights in and near New Orleans.

The bus stop was right on the other way of the road, we went for a visit by bus and tram .... it was nice ...
The bus ride took us about an hour and an hour back.
It was cheap and easy and the driver was very nice in telling us where to get out and which next bus to take ...

Thursday, March 14

Visiting New Orleans again .... humid warm weather, with some possible rain showers, is predicted ....
We will see ... we continue our travel to Tallahassee ....

Will try to keep you updated ... ;)

Bye, Daniel and Marjon.

To give some more details on the "Breakdown"

Since last Wednesday March 6, our GMC, The Flying Dutchman, came to a stop at Seguin, TX ....

I already experienced shifting getting worse, sometimes no 3 gear in the days before, but at that point manually "helping" ... helped....
On the Wednesday morning it was cold, coming from a nice but also very cold stay at the Alamo City RV Park of 2 days, bringing the shifter from P to D
was very difficult. Much resistance. Driving .... only till second gear. On highway I only drove at 3300 rpm, about 55-56 mph (GPS reading)

Normally my oil pressure was about 40 psa, now 35 .... and as I approached the exit at Seguin, TX, it dropped to 20psi and seeing that, I instantly
took that exit, whilst rolling on that exit ramp it dropped to almost zero. I could swing in a nice parking spot between some trucks an switched the
engine off.

No overheating, nor temperature elevation on transmission temp meter, no smelling. Only I thought I heard in those last seconds a very light rattle.
Checking under the hood, there was some coolant got out against hood and dripping on ground, not excessive.
Checking oil, level still almost max. Transmission, good, red and not hot or smelling.
BTW before the start of this trip, all oil, transmission oil, filters, alternator, checking, new gasket with block off plates was done in Tuscon.

After consulting Alex and Espen, they advised me let it cooldown, 1-1,5 hours, then start it look at pressure and listen carefully.
I did, pressure up to 35 psi, but again dropping. And we heard a little rattle / knock ...

To summarize .... waited two days for the right wrecker, a Landoll with winch, luckycould spend the night in nearby motel, had food and gas station at
hand ...
And not to forget the help of several GMCers from around !
Billy, Stephen, Paul and Budd ... they managed to get me at Friday to the shop of Don Virta in Cedar Park, who promised me to get the job done, he is
going to get engine and transmission out, the whole clip ...

We decided to rent a MH, for 4 weeks, drove back with the help of Paul, to San Antonio, so we could continue our trip to Tallahassee GMCMI Meeting and
back .......

So the Flying Dutchman is immobilized for the time being, but I hope that he will come out of this, better and stronger then before Wink

And to answer the question, asked here ... I don't yet know but we will see ... a down payment is already paid ....

... the world is full of nice people, so if you can't find one, be one !

Daniel

Daniel and Marjon -

As I mentioned elsewhere - your resiliency is completely admirable.

Should we encounter any difficulties with our GMC travels - you will be the inspiration for alternative plans.

I've often been told - "It's not an adventure until something breaks.." You're proof of that :)

Good Luck with the rest of your adventure.

Thanks, Steve

Those days, last week weren't fun, but for now we are fine again and as you perhaps could read, enjoying our travels.
Most of our expiriences and troubles in life, can be often hilarious, laughable or even getting better over time .... let's stick to that.

Bye, Daniel and Marjon,

...... on their way to Mobile, Alabama ....

Thursday, March 14

That Afternoon yesterday was definitely too short, so we added today and made a long visit to the center of New Orleans again, Riverwalk, Outlet
Center, the Park and parts of the French Quarter we did not visit yesterday ...

Weather was warm, humid and no rain, they did predict some rains but we were lucky.
The bus and tram was our means of transport, and easy, even for seniors very cheap (40c for 2 hours of traveling)
Change you get by an extra ticket with that change amount on it, you can use that on the next drive ...

Friday, March 15

This morning, we took it easy, only a short drive from New Orleans to Mobile, and during the unhooking of the electricity a few drops started falling
.... well let's say those few multiplied and multiplied in a few minutes to the thousands ... I was just in time getting in the MH, otherwise I had
got myself a free second shower that day ...

On our way to Mobile, AL, passing the state of Mississippi also, it was really heavy rains and some but not excessive wind gusts ... before we reached
Mobile it was clearing up.
So our first visit to the Fort Conde, was a nice walk, little chilly but an interesting tour.

Second to visit was the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. Were we could park the MH much more easily on the big parking lot. It was an interesting
and impressive tour, not only around, but also inside of that big battleship. You could really get lost there. Afterwards a visit to the big hangar
and the USS Drum, submarine, also with access to the inside.

Those people had to crawl and work hard to get everything done ... you have to admire end honor that !
It was an very interesting day.

Just wanted to share.
We landed on a big Truck stop, the Oasis Travel Center, in Robertsdale, AL.

Had to top off the gas tanks, but AllStays RV called it RV friendly. We stayed, they are really an amazing stop. Shop is big and has everything, but
also nice stuff, and to eat, Subway etc and a nice restaurant.

Truck repair truck wash very big parking lot etc ... very clean wash shower and restrooms.

..... here a short impression ....

Saterday, March 16

The morning started cold and there was some rain, but not that excessive as the day before.
We had only a short drive ahead of us, but first we payed, the big Florida Visitor Center, a visit, along the I10, on the border between Alabama and
Florida.

How nice! We were right away welcomed with a nice fresh orange juice and all our questions were answered !
This lady was quite knowledgeable, she even could tell us where to park, for free, the MH, and still be able to easily walk to the Palafox St and
Market in Pensacola.

Only 15 minutes later we arrived and could park at that spot our MH. A hour and a half we made, despite the light rain, a nice walk, took a look at
the various shops and market stalls.
The most were cold and some didn't show up, but is was still very enjoyable.

Our next destination, was the National Naval Aviation Museum a half hour drive, on our way we had to fill up the propane tank at a UHaul, that was a
quick and easy task.

The museum was for free and really FANTASTIC ... 👍🇺🇸
One could spent all day and even more ...
So part of the morning and the whole afternoon was spent at that awesome place.

Later we got us one of the last spots at the Big Lagoon State Park ... our names are already well known by their computer system, because we like to
stay there very much and we're rarely disappointed, and so also today!
What a nice and well cared for campground, nice and clean facilities, warm showers etc, and you can make nice hikes from here, going to the beach
🏖, etc ....

And a nice dinner, some coffee afterwards ... 😉👋

Hi, Daniel.

Did I read that you had your GMC taken to Don Virta near Austin, TX for engine replacement?
I need the same thing for my 76 Palm Beach and am looking for a competent shop for the task.
I understand that Don is a GMC motorhome owner himself.

Hi Mac,

He had two of them, one standing there, he is not driving them as often as I understood.
But from his and Billy's statements he has done a lot of GMC MH and Onan work, of various kind, in his life.
Billy and several local GMCers hold him high .... so our GMC, AKA The Flying Dutchman, is there now for a very big job.
I hope he finishes it in time, but he assured me he would have it done by the time we return from Tallahassee, and still have time to drive to Tucson
were we store it and fly our scheduled flight on April 17, back to Europe ...
....... we live in the Netherlands.....

Hi Mac:
Yes - Don Virta from Cedarpark, Tx. owns 2 GMC MH’s. He is a competent mechanic and familiar w/ GMC’s.
I used him last year to drop my tanks and install all new gas lines - did a Gr8 job in about 10 hrs (one day).

Sunday, March 17

We left the State Park this morning, went on our way to Destin, looked at the State Park there ... no vacancy, the kids have their Spring vacation, so
I think that makes it so crowded.

We left the Henderson Beach State Park, drove on, next stop Grayton Beach Sp .... same thing, no spot available...
Stopped at a Cracker Barrel to take a break.

After a short drive, we found with the help of AllStays RV, found a little RV Park, the Peach Creek RV Park, Santa Rosa Beach and nobody at the desk
... so we checked ourselves in at a vacant spot ... we will see ...

Weather became warmer and warmer today and we had to undress several times ...but this is better then getting colder 😉👍

Monday, March 18

A quiet start this morning and we went at first to the Eden Garden State Park, and a Victorian House from the Wesley Family, who lived there till
1953, and was 10 years later sold to Lois Maxon how did rebuild it to its former beauty and later donated it to the state of Florida. The villa was
from 1897.

We could not only see the villa outside, surrounded by special 500 years old oaks ..... but also got a guided tour inside, sadly no pictures allowed
... it was awesome !

From here we drove south to the coast and Seagrove and Seaside, found us a place to park and walked the coastroad and visited the beach 🏖 it was
crowded, kids having still a vacation, lots of bikes .... lots of them ! We felt as back at home for awhile 😃🥴

On our way back we had a very nice and tasty lunch at an Italian Restaurant, Angelina's ...

From there we drove to Panama City Beach, on the road very nice houses and apartments....arrived we visited the Panama Pier, with lots of nice shops
and even more little restaurants, very nice, took a short break to the beach there too ...

Tuesday , March 19

This morning we drove from Panama City Beach along the 98 ..... what a mess that Hurricane caused !
And driving through Mexico Beach .... even worse. Debris everywhere, all over the place trucks and bulldozers, roofing work, total demolition, road
work, people living in MHs, RVs ... or move, several properties for sale ...
It was so sad to watch ... 😔😢 ....

After our combined Breakfast/Lunch break in Mexico Beach, we drove along the "Forgotten North-Florida Coast" and passed Port Saint Joe, Apalachicola,
Eastpoint and Carrabelle. The Ochlockoner River State Park, was full so we drove about 4 miles north to the town of Sopchoppy, were we found the
quiet, simple, but nicely situated RV City Park. The Mary B Hodge City Park Campground on a little lake,

The sun is shining, getting warm so that is so nice.
They only have 50 amps electric plug-ins, so our rental 30 amps doesn't fit, and I only have an adapter to the normal outlet, no 30 to 50 adapter, but
we will manage ...
The max stay here is 14 days, but the rate is very moderate, only 15$ .... no WiFi, but that's also no problem.

Time to relax.
PS .... again we had to adjust our watches an hour, since we left Arizona we have now a 3 hour difference ....

Look who arrived at the same RV Park we are .... Billy and Debbie !! 👍👋😘🇳🇱🇺🇸👋

Wednesday, March 20

After we had a nice little morning gathering with Debbie and Billy, we went to Crawfordville ... we needed some laundry to do, and since I saw no
laundry on the list of amenities, on the Fairgrounds, we decided, to do it now. After an hour and a half, many quarters and some soap, the job was
done and we brought the stuff back to the MH .... man oh man what a long walk ..... of 10 feet .... 😉😂

In the afternoon the Tallahassee Automobile Museum was our next destination and while it was getting warmer and warmer, sunny and nice we entered the
big Museum.
It was nice. Many special vehicles, but also, I think from gifts, other stuff .... collectibles, etc ....

It took us a few hours to see it all and tired from the slow walking through that museum we stopped, did eat something and are relaxing now.

Tomorrow in the morning we plan to visit the Alfred B. Maclay Garden State Park, just north of Tallahassee ...
After that we are heading to the North Fairgrounds in Tallahassee, for the GMCMI Meeting 👍😉🇳🇱🇺🇸👋

Thursday, March 21

Visited this morning the wonderful Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, north of Tallahassee, FL ....
Besides the walk through the park you can visit the Winter house of the Maclay Family, but also make hikes around the Lake, kayaking, relaxing etc
....

We arrived .... The North Florida Fairgrounds are slowly filling up with GMC's ... old friends and new friends .... nice to see and meet them again!

Update: Engine of our Flying Dutchman needs some more work, extra .... crankshaft, bad, thrust bearing bad, so rebuilding, parts are already on its
way.

Radiator is also going bad so while out, it is a good thing to recording this too.

Front bearings, breaks etc will also be done, afterwards the rear break too.
AC and Dash Heater, and some minor stuff ...
Extra insulation around the motor compartment will be installed too ....

Friday, March 22

The morning glow, shining over the already present GMC's ...
... on the Tallahassee Fairgrounds ....

Made a walk on the Fairgrounds ... more and more Convention Participants coming and on this sunny day arriving .... registering and already enjoying
themselves 👍

Welcome Meeting GMCMI Spring 2019 ... Friday, March 22 ...
Very nice !

Saterday, March 23

This Friday started great, weather is good, breakfast is nice and the first technical seminar was very informative. How to get out of your coach in
case of fire .... an eye opener, indeed. Only a few attendees have to come in, the majority is already here and enjoying themselves 👍😄

Enjoy this photo's of the parked GMC .... PS .... on Facebook ....

More and more GMCs have arrived ... at the North Florida Fairgrounds in Tallahassee ...

Sunday, March 24

This afternoon we had at first the swap meet, stuff ... stuff .... and stuff, for sale, people trading, selling buying and, yes ... give away !
After that we had the "Open House" .... weather was perfect, sun shining and we could see a lot of nice, special and extraordinary modifications,
alterations, perfectations, weird-tations and almost impossible variations. It was so special. Here some pictures I want to share .... enjoy.

Finally I found a nice original GMC Operating Manual for a 1977 MH ... although the 403 ... but that should not be a problem. And believe it or not
got a original Onan, Operators Manual, for free from some very nice people ...

Hi Peer,

And that is right, the only one I put up was that one with the Flying Dutchman on that wrecker .....
Posting them only with the help of a iPad or phone on this GMCnet is very difficult.
And often I tried a lot but it didn't work ....

So that will be done in several weeks from now when I am home.
For you who can access the Facebook pages, there are plenty of them.

Bye, Daniel

Monday, March 25

The Ladies Luncheon ... The Guys got a delicious Chilly and we had fun and Tech Sessions this afternoon ... and off course we saw Alex and Ty do their
magic 👍😉

In the afternoon, the sun was shining and we had nice temperatures, the "Weighing of the Coaches" took place.
A lot of the attendees took that opportunity to go out start up their engines, and got in line before that weighing.
Very important to know how the load is distributed and if there is no overweight on one axle or even a tire.
Furthermore you can set the tire pressure more accurate, according the recommendation of the manufacturer of the tires ...
In the evening we had a dinner, and after that the Pineblock Derby Race took place ... a fun and nice day, it was 👍🇺🇸👍👋

Get better soon, Mike ....

Tuesday, March 26

This morning Jeff Sirum told us about weight, distribution of it and informative stuff we should really consider.
Followed by Randy van Winkle's EFI info-tainment .... he brings you the information in such a nice and pleasant way, you want to follow more of his
hearings ....
The Ladies were informed by Lucy Weidner about, what is health, while Jim Galbavy told us about, Vets with a Mission.

The lunch by Ken Frey and friends was delicious and gave us new energy to attend the afternoon sessions, by Jim Bounds and John Richardson.

What a nice dinner we had, prepared by the GMC Dixielanders ... and afterwards a "Treasures in Tallahassee Party" .... Everybody was more or less
dressed up "Pirate" ....
... And Captain Jack came and visited us .... 🤪👋👍 .... It was fun !!

Wednesday, March 27

Again an excellent Breakfast, as always ....
A last session by Lucy and for the men, questions by Ken Henderson and John Nickolls.
The Memberships Meeting, the Pineblock Derby Award and after that the Raffle, was the finishing touch to this fantastic Spring Meeting in
Tallahassee.
The last meal together and the GMCMI Meeting was over, except for the GMCMI Bord Meeting.

Thank you everybody. It was once again fantastic !

Tomorrow is the Campground checkout ....
