The Age of Discovery

Greetings All,

The new coach is full of surprises....mostly poorly executed little
mods, much of it
electrical wiring routed up, over and around with no thought to sharp
metal edges
etc.I have found several wires with chaffed insulation. As a new owner,
it is all an
age of discovery and a learning curve .I enjoyed re-routing a "hot"
terminal from the left side battery...I DISCONECTED the plus lead and
promptly had it arc strongly
to ground as I re-routed it. Thats a new trick.

Does anyone know why a '78 Royale should be wired with two passenger
side
front batteries used for engine starting and one left front house
battery?

I also purged the power steering pump and installed a new return hose
with filter.
No surprises there except five different auto parts shops could not
provide the
AC PF883 filter.

I also noticed that the trans cooling lines route very close under the
left side manifold on their way to the cooler. This seems kinda self
defeating. Has anyone rerouted them along the left frame and then across
to the the cooler? Are they high pressure?
Would they need isolation from the frame for when the power unit moves?

Incidentally the trans ID plate reads

78M 454 78GM 2717

Is this different from the 425 unit many coaches have?

Any and all info gratfully recieved.

David, your Royale left the GM factory as a Transmode and that's the
standard factory arrangement for Transmodes.

GMCnetter JR Slaten sells braided SS reinforced teflon hoses long enough
to allow routing along the frame rail. Contact him at jrslaten

Pretty sure that all GMC's came with the 425 tranny.

FYI, I have a '77 Birchaven, which is sort of the shorter version of your
Royale. It also has 2 batteries on the passenger side and one on the drivers
side. But only one of the batteries on the passenger side is wired to the
starter. The other is wired in parallel with the drivers side "house"
battery. I always assumed it was done this way because there is more room
under the passenger's foot area.
