Richard,

As per usual, I have no first hand knowledge of how to fix your odor
problem. Also per usual, I can report on what I have observed whilst
hanging around Buskirk's waiting for various services to be performed on
my coach.

On one such occasion, a Birchaven owner had the same complaint as you, a
foul odor (odour, if north of the border) even with an empty holding
tank. I was there when they dropped the tank. The top of the tank was
completely coated with, ... well, you can imagine what it was coated
with. Turned out to be a broken fitting on the top of the tank, which
they offered to repair. The owner decided to replace the tank with a new
one from Cinnabar, and I heartily endorsed his decision, based on
"olfactory reasons".

Anyway, because of your symptoms, I think your suspicion of black water
leaking onto the top of your tank could be correct. And I guess you'll
need to drop the tank to check it out. I hope some 'netter can help with
pointers on how to do that.

Man, I hope you can get everything "ship shape" for your trip. I'd love
to do Colorado by GMC.

Best of luck!

Tim,
Thanks for the ideas.

I kind of hope that the top of my tank is not covered with
crud. But again that might be a good thing, because I would
then know what I am dealing with.

I'm still trying to figure out how take a peek it. I'm told
to take the kick panel off at the bath module. Easier said
then done. I don't have time to run it up to Cinnabar or
Buskrik. Too bad because we go up for half of each week
end to our place on Lake Huron, which is only 25 miles from
Sandusky. Those GMC places are basicly in my neighborhood.

Unfortunealy the coach is all apart now and therefore not ready
for the road.
