Thank You for letting me join. I should have a 1973 GMC 26 ft motorhome within a week. There was a digit missing from the title which needed to be
corrected. Once that is done I have a mobile tire service set to replace all six tires and a tow service to move it to my mechanic. I was told that
it ran when parked BUT as always that does not mean much. I would like to know the history of this particular motorhome. I was wondering if there is
a data base that can be accessed to find that information by using the VIN. I am kind of planning on a ground up project and the more information I
have the easier it will be to know what to do next. Everything I have read here gives me a sense of confidence that answers and work arounds for
unusual situations are available. I know old vehicles require a different kind of attention and not just a drive to the dealership and I think we are
up for the challenge.

The first step in your restoration should be to buy a different one that
someone else spent 20k and three years of their life doing what you are
about to do for way less than true cost and enjoy the thing now.

How long has it been parked?? Long enough that it needs new tires. I was told that it was recently run what does that mean and who do you trust?? A
partially finished might work BUT we kind of have our own taste as to what needs to be done to make it ours. We have just finished converting a 1978
MCI and now want something a little smaller and I like the GMC's with the air ride. We will see what is needed and how to proceed. Life is an
adventure and you have to enjoy the ride. For twelve franklins I am taking a chance.

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum....

We are glad to have you here.

A coach that old and sitting that long will probably need the fuel system gone through. But as to dealerships, don't even consider them. GM disowned
these coaches years ago. You do have some shops in possible range once she is running, but if you are not a passable wrench, best make a friend at a
local shop. All the required service documentation can be downloaded. I can tell you that the rubber parts are shot. They age out, all of them, the
hoses, fuel, coolant and brake lines should at least be inspected.

Forget this part, while I was writing, he answered you......
If you contact John Shotwell that maintains the registry, he may be able to tell you something. He likes to keep quiet on information, but if you
know the previous owner, he may be able to fill in more detail.

Do both yourself and those that may like to offer assistance a big favor and you are most of the way there.
Build a sigfile that has your name, a short about the coach and a geographic hint. This way, when you meet other owners, they will recognize the
name, the coach info makes for less confusion, and knowing where you are can change things. Someone might like to offer assistance.

You say a "ground up project". All GMCs are a project in process, but get it safe and running and enjoy what it can do for you before you take
anything apart. We often see stripped out coaches being sold off as scrap and that hurts.

Finding your way here was a very good thing. This is a community like few others. These are supportive and helping people the likes of which you may
not know. I do because it they are like the watermen of my world. For that reason, I like to welcome new owners here much as you might be there.
