Well left Saturday morning bright and early towing son in laws Rx-8 on a trailer. Headed to SCCA National Solo autocross at Lincoln, NE Airpark. Retired B 52 parking apron of about 100 acres.
Everything going great till passenger rear tire blew out. Pulled over on shoulder 1 mile from rest stop.
Have the quad bag and a spare. Isolated bad tire and replaced with spare. Googled searched WalMart 5 miles away. Bought new tire for spare and off and running in just over two hours.

Need to check trailing boogie alignment and do a better job checking air pressures.

Doing test and tune runs. Race Tuesday and Wednesday.

How old was the tire that blew and any damage to the coach?

George,

Hope the coach didn't sustain any body damage.

Alan just asked today whether Y'All were gone to Nationals. I'm going to
info him on this.

Good luck.

No damage. Started slowing down when the smell started. A few chucks departed the carcass but nothing big.

The obvious next question, what brand and model was the tire that blew after only 3 years

I do believe it was operator error. I knew the rear bogie was out of alignment but didn't do anything about it. My son in law thinks we had the Rx-8 too far forward on the trailer increasing tongue weight. Not checking tire air pressures often enough.
It was a Delta.

I check my tire pressure once on every trip before I leave. Then on almost every stop I walk around and feel the temperature of each tire with my
hand. If one is noticeably warmer than the rest, then I know it needs further investigation.

Yes, I have a IR temper gun somewhere but I do not bother getting it out. Also I notice that the tires on the sunshine side of the coach are usually
warmer than the opposite side.

Deltas are bad news IMHO. I bought a new set a couple of years ago and before they were 1 year old. 4 had separated and one had blown. I was told that
Delta is out of business and I replaced them. Live and learn.

Delta is a house brand of TBC Brands, along with Sumitomo and many others:

So how'd u guys do at the Nationals? I'm an old rotorhead... I have a few RX7s and a Rotary Pickup, myself. Don't have an RX8 yet, though.

Mark,

We paddocked with the Texas autocross contingent, "Spokes". My son in law runs his RX-8 in CS class. It was the biggest class ever with 86 drivers. He finished 27th. He won the class at the Grenada, MS Crossroads event this year and trophied last year at Lincoln. Nationals (Lincoln) are where all the regional champs compete, tough, tough competition.

It is the SCCA world's largest participant motorsports event with over 1300 drivers. Very impressive.

The GMC was given multiple thumbs up (GMC Content)!

Now let's talk them into moving the National Runoffs back to Road Atlanta.
