tankless water heater

Just thinking ahead as this is probably a next year item on my list, but
has anyone installed a tankless water heater? Was thinking about cutting
out an exterior access door where the current tank is and installing from
the outside.

Many have installed tankless. Including myself.

There are a few ways and different models. Most, like me, installed behind the fridge.

I am not super happy with it. I want to install a tank back. I will keep the instant, but i think it uses a little more water because if the flow
it requires to heat. I may try a smaller one. I always liked my tank one until it leaked. I have a 75 that had the square one. I want to find
or will build one up like the 76-78 gmc upfit models have.

Thanks Jon. Something to think about. Maybe an upgraded tank is the way
to go. I have a few months to ponder before I begin the interior reno.

I have a Girard tankless water heater and absolutely love it. One of the best investments I've made to the interior.
I have a Royale, so it came with cutouts in the fuselage for a water heater. And I think it is smart for you to make a cutout for it. I have heard of
all different methods to incorporate a tankless with out cutouts and none sound good. Only get a tankless designed for a RV.

I had couple insurance adjusters tell me they refused to pay for fire
damage from home units in any RV.
The RV units cost more as they go through acceptance test.""

Jim,
You are saying that you know of more than one fire in a GMC that was caused by a home unit tankless water heater? Of course I am concerned because I
have one in my GMC.

In looking at the Girard On-Demand Tankless Water Heater I see that it is a pretty big box at 15.5 x 22.5 x 12.5 inches. There is no place in my Palm
Beach that would accommodate that size.

I should also mention that I got my Girard through Jim at Applied about 3 years ago. Mine is the 2nd generation, since then Girard has improved them
even more. The latest version is the way to go. Digital controls more accurate temperature controll. I'm still very happy with my Gen 2 version, I
just have to manually tune my temperature control knob.
