Hello
Has anyone changed their tail light arrangement to fit the "newer"
style tail light assemblies?
How much trouble?
Was it worth the effort?
What disasters can I expect?
And if I was in a scrap yard, what years of vans would I be looking
for for Both the original style and the new style?

I'm looking for lenses for the original while I shop for the "up grade".

Thanks

Mike,

I installed new tail lights which I purchased from Jim Bounds. Price seemed to
be very reasonable (can't remember how much).

Not much trouble at all to install. Just had to re-drill a couple of the
original screw holes. They were a little off for the new lenses.

It appeared that Jim had trimming the housings to fit before he shipped them to
me.

Do the new tail lights include more than just the lenses? How about
the back-up light function? Are the bulbs still used from the original
system? I am also contemplating going to the new style.

We were discussing items of a GMC nature. I see you're in this for
the long haul. Good stuff :-)

Mike Beaton....

As I recall I had to remove the old lens and metal housing, then install the new
lens with its rubber seal. The original bulbs remain, and the new lens has a
clear area for the back-up bulbs to shine through.

The new part is a molded plastic lens/housing assembly. The housing part of it
apparently is too deep to fit the recesses in our coaches. There were trim marks
on it where Jim had cut it to fit.

Hope that helps.

Richard

The Peek Family advertises new sets in GMC MH Mag but that is all I know
about them.
