Are you still going to do that for the engine in spite of what Gene Fisher's
message today said about Mondello's position on use of synthetic engine oil?

I have already changed to SynOil in my final drive, will change with next
Trans oil change and as soon as I use up my last case of Castrol HD 30 I
will change to Mobil 1 or the like. I vowed if I ever got a new engine I
would break in on Synthetic. Now have decided not to wait.
As old and as worn as I think my engine is with over 300k miles on it, she
still holds good oild pressure and decent compression readings so why not.
According to the mechanic who took care of my coach for 450k miles of its
life, he used Slick 50 all the time. I have never mentioned this as I am
somewhat skeptical when it comes to additives But he swears this is one
reasom why we have had such good service. I haven't used any additives for
the 70k miles I have put on it but I have had the oil analyzed twice and the
reports indicate no unusual wear pattern.

Dave synthetics are wonderful for our engines but it has one serious short
coming. from everything that I have read it cannot be used to break in an
engine. Nothing ever seats.

I have Mondellos "Performance lubricants for performance cars" technical
bulletin that he wrote. I believe that Gene misunderstood Joe. On the
second page Joe says "I prefer Mobil 1, Amzoil, Syntec, Pennzoil and Torco
racing". The three oils I've done most of my testing on are Mobil 1,
Pennzoil racing (petroleum based), and Torco racing with MPZ (petroleum
based). I run these three oils in my VO twister and have experienced no
engine failures with any if the three. .

Hope this puts this matter to rest. I beleive of the three Mobil 1 is
cheaper and in my opinion is better.

Will post Joes response when I get it on the subject.

Probably Paul. One of my many quirks is, I listen to all the advice and
then do what I want to do anyway. If Joe Mondello tells me himself I may
give the advice more weight. I winder what he thinks of Slick 50?
