Synthetic Final Drive oil

I'm not sure I follow this. I switched to synthetic final drive oil last
summer. To be truthful, the only difference I noticed was in my
wallet .

Unless you monitor the temperature and wear of the final drive you may not
notice a difference. But there is none the less.

But Mike, it is a one time investment. I think my final drive has over
500,000 miles on it. The oil probably wasn't touched til I switched to
Synthetic. I expect I will change it 500,000 miles from now! [g]

dave you still have the original 3.07 final drive with that many miles on it?

Mike,

Before I changed the oil in the final drive to Mobil One Gear Oil, I
found the cover to the final drive too hot to hold my hand on after a
full-days run. Now I find the cover hot, but can hold my hand on it. I don't
know the temperature differential but there is a lowering of the final drive
temperature.

David... seems to be lots of dialogue on synthetics. Some szy no some
say yes. I have about 8K miles on new engine, and 3K miles on new
transmission. What suggestions would you make on both.
