After the article in the February issue of GMCMH about synthetic
automatic transmission fluid, I was ready to run out and change over.
Then came the thread again on synthetic oil. Last Friday I put Mobil I
15-50 in my 92 Suburban. Oil pressure is up by 15 lbs and holds
steadier at a hot idle. I am ready to switch in my GMC as well.

Does anyone have experience with synthetic ATF. I noticed that Tom said
it was recommended by Joe Mondello. Any further information or
testimonials would greatly be appreciated.

stock transmission I think.

Mondello recommends Torco synthetic. somewhere in his writings he says that
synthetics reduce tranny temps by a significant amount. I will find it.

I plan to switch this spring before driving.

I replaced my trans oil to Amsoil Synthetic. Tranny always runs cool,
even when towing the saturn. I can't say I noticed a huge difference (I
do have an analog gauge on the pan).

I may switch to Synthetic in the engine as a one year trial. My main
objection to using it in the engine is at the rate of 800-1,000 miles per
quart, I could be adding a quart every other day when I am running down
the highway. On the other hand at lets say, 12,000 miles the delta cost
isn't going to be that great compared to the assumed or percieved
benefits.

FWIW: I was told by the tech that did my tranny last to change to synthetic
at next service, i.e. simply replace the fluid with synthetic. You'll start
out with a blend but after 2 or 3 services it's pretty well all synthetic.

That's what I did when I switched over.
Of course then the modulator went nuts and I lost a bunch of fluid so I'm
probably close to pure synthetic by now :-)

Don't some of the fast oil change shops claim to be able to completely
change out the transmission fluid, including from the torque converter??

Now that I've made the decision to upgrade my ATF to synthetic fluid
what is the recommended method of removing as much of the old fluid as
possible?

Check with some of the local dealers or better shops. There is a unit
that some shops now have that will change all of you ATF, not just part
of it as occurs when you drop and drain the pan. As you might guess, it
is more costly, but it gets everything out.
Still shopping for a coach.
