Supporting GMC

Happy New Year to all. I am a constant lurker but don't seem to ever be
able to offer advise. Because of this list my unit is progressing
nicely, again thank you Patrick I am about to undertake redoing the
brake system with the stainless steel lines and am considering removing
the gas tanks and having them "RENUED". Before undertaking this I am
trying to decide what is the safest way to jack the the unit up,what
type jack stands to use and where best to place these.

Philip,

When buying stands remember who is going to be underneath!

I have been at Alex Sirum's shop. They use 3 ton jacks. They always look new
and appear very heavy duty. They jack up at each set of wheels. Two just
behind bogies, and 2 at front wheels. Check GMC manual for exact
locations.

With 6000 x 4 thats about double the weight of the coach. It would still
make me nervous as &*$%.

I also block mine with sawed off railroad ties stacked as an EXTRA
precaution near the area I am working on.

Make double sure you are on at least 6" concrete slab that is VERY level.

Safest way is to have someone else crawl under!

Another comment on jacking up the GMC, always keep the coach fairly level on
all four corners like Alex does. I jacked up the front right corner and broke
the windshield. It was fogged anyway so it was not a total waste but it may save
someone good glass. I would recommend carrying bottle jacks while underway to do
the same if needed. Apparently, it puts a big twist or strain on the coach to
jack up a single corner or just the front or back.
