Suggested sealant for belt line

Hi All, I'm looking for suggestions on what you've used successfully as a sealer at the belt line between the aluminum and the Beltline?
I've searched the Forum and have not come up with any good results so looking for current suggestions from those that have done it before. Thanks

You might think about sealing the cavity and putting on the trim dry. Any water that might get in there would run out instead of maybe being trapped. Some folks suggested this when we did our paint. Also the trim piece between the roof and the sides. Just seal the cavity and put the trim on dry. Any water coming off the roof just runs right out the bottom instead of collecting and finding it’s way into the coach.

What cavity are you referring to Gary? The belt extrusions on the 77-78 are
integrated and cannot be removed. The early models I believe have an
aluminum strip over a cavity.

If you are planning on painting over it you have a myriad of good choices.
Since you are attempting to seal between aluminum which has a lot of
thermal movement and SMC which does not you want a polyurethane sealant
which is has a lot of stretch so it can allow movement without cracking
and also accept paint coatings. 3m makes an excellent, cost effective
single part moisture cure sealant which can be applied over bare
aluminum as well as properly prepared painted surfaces which has great
toolability as well as adhesion strength. 3m 08369 is available in soft and
conventional (caulking gun cannister) at any autobody supply store. slight
variations in part number will give you color options of at least gray or
white(there may be more options now). as far as single component sealants
go ive not seen a better 1k product come out yet. we still use it
frequently in suitable applications. As I said at the beginning there are a
myriad of sealant options. I think for this application 3m 08369 is a great
choice. go to the 3m website and peruse their tech pages until your eyes
get blurry and you will probably end up back at 08369.

Another good product, although maybe a little tougher to find is SikaFlex ...its another bonding agent that is toolable when wet(like caulking) and
glues pretty much anything to anything. Once it cures it allows for some elasticity but yet stays strong.

Warning though, it needs to cure once applied before paint or it will crack the paint as it dries.
