I have been smelling propane when using the furnace (a Suburban type II
from what I can tell) I had read the recall and replaced all the lines
inside the unit using my newly aquired flaring tool. While I was at it I
replaced the regulator and all the hoses in the LP compartment and
hooked up the fridge. I checked the entire system for leaks and found
one, which I repaired. I still smelled propane when the furnace was on.

I noticed a "thump, thrump, thrump" sound coming from the furnace when
the fan was off. There were flames coming from the pilot and from the
burners ( a low flickering glow). There was a big THRUMP and flame shot
out singing my eyebrows and the hair on the back of my hand. Skippy the
Dog went running for his hills.

It is aparent that the solenoid valve in the unit does not shut off
completely. I was hoping that it was a seperate unit that I could
replace but it apears to be a part of the entire control unit.

Where can I get a new control unit? Are they available used or new or
should I sell another child and buy a whole furnace? Can I just hook up
an LP solenoid in the line going from the original controller to the
burner?

I can't give you an idea where to get a control valve but I had a similar
problem. That furnace would whistle and holler when running. I removed it
and started to see how it ticked. The biggest problem was really the wasp
nest in the air intake (to bad those little guys did set up home in the
other port). Went an inspected and cleaned out the rest of the furnace and
combustion chamber. Used an gasket from a heat tape from Grainger's and the
unit works very well.
I have added a CO2 monitor in the lady though. A trailer we had years ago
tried to get us one night.
