Just another FWIW:

I very recently bought a set of G159 LT 225 R 75-16 tires at
an "America's Tire Co." outlet in Livermore, CA. Next day delivery
without the slightest trace of the availability problems of the sort you
encountered. Maybe I just got lucky.

"America's Tire Co." is a national wheel and tire distributor
that claims to have over 400 retail outlets, including 8 in Illinois that
you can find listed at www.americastire.com.

Thanks for the tip. America's Tire Co. is known as Discount Tire in Indiana,
MI and MI. BTDT. (been there, done that; Ft Wayne, Elkhart, Kalamazoo and up
the ladder to their regional warehouse in Chicago) No Goodyears.

Availability of the G-159 must surely be a regional thing.
One advantage to that left coast living.
