Don't even see an owner between Brookings and Rapid City. Black Listers in
both those cities.

I gave him info on how to convert a standard dist to a 7 pi unit so he can
get to his destination.
I think he is not getting enough oil sprayin on the distributor gear to
wick it up the shaft

Sounds to me like he has a rebuilt 455 by a machine shop that did not
install the oil plug with a .040" diameter hole in the rear camshaft oil
gallery that lubes the distributor gears and shaft bearings.
Big job to fix that. Engine has to come out, flywheel has to come
off, freeze plug that covers that oil gallery needs to be pulled, gallery
plug needs to replaced with the correct one, freeze plug needs to
be replaced, flex plate needs to go back on, and engine can go back in. All
for a cheap little oil plug. Such a deal for an overlooked step.

Big thanks to Bob D for loaning me his spare distributor. I was not able to locate a HEI or vacuum distributor out in the area I was stranded.
Someone picked up Bob D's spare distributor and drove it 250 miles to meet me in a rental car. then back to my coach, installed the new one with a
little more shim under it to allow better end play and drove it 450 miles home without incident. I will post a reply if I ever find out whats going
on with this. I will also be installing a temperature sensor on distributor shaft that reads out on my IPAD display. I never want to be stranded out
on I-90 again!!! EVER!
Bryce from California stopped in his coach while traveling by and helped me trouble shoot as well. Thanks to him as well!! So many great folks in
this group!

On another side note, The reflective triangles to put up on the shoulder behind you are a must in my book. I broke down once before (distibutor
issue) and didnt have them. I do now and it did give me a little piece of mind.
Please be safe out there and I hope none of you ever get stranded on I-90 between Chamberlain and Mitchell SD!!
