Storage costs

Hello everyone. I have relocated from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area). I am staying with my mother for the time being, and will be bringing down
my coach in the next couple weeks. I have been looking for storage either a outside lot or other alternatives. I can't really store it at her house
for various reasons. Most storage facilities are charging between $125-$200 for an outside lot. But many of those are also self storage facilities. I
have found two places in the San Fernando Valley that have indoor Storage but the prices are about three $375-$500. I am moving from one miserable
climate (nonstop rain) to another ( nonstop heat). I am thinking indoor would be best but the prices are kind of steep. Any thoughts?

That is why people love having MGM GMC repair their coaches and leaving it
there then get upset when it is put up for Lein Sale.
Were in Northern CA and have the same type of issues, but not like MGM GMC
in Southern CA.

Brian,
Can you get a covered outside space for a decent price? That would be your best option in SoCal. A non climate controlled enclosed unit will get
hotter inside that the outside air temperature. At least with the covered outside covered space you will get airflow.
But your best option is to move to Texas and get a 42 foot enclosed unit for $150 per month. And the local government will not be in your pocket as
much..

sacrifice the 40 mile drive for that. If I ever bring it to your place Jim, I won't leave it there, I promise!!

I got tired of paying storage fees as they kept going up.

Solution...........I leveled a pad in my front yard, installed a 30 amp
service pole. All is good.

I poured a 15x35 pad and then a year or so later put a tin cover on it. Works fine.

Mine is stored outside uncovered BUT it is being renovated. I prefer covered for the protection of the paint and store my bus conversion in covered
storage. I don't like the idea of storing it at home because when it is gone it like a giant flag saying that I have gone on vacation. So for me the
choice would be covered open storage.

Not all of us have space and some of us have zoning requirements that even
if we had a tall carport we could not park an RV there.

Johnny, take full advantage of your health and property while you can.

I've had 2 heart attacks and three strokes and decided I wasn't going to work on large projects anymore. We've since been told my wife has leukemia
and dementia. We sold our home and sent my shop equipment to auction. And have enough to travel as my wife is able.

Then we bought our GMC.
Understand, once a hotrodder always a... You will never give it up. I kept a few hand tools but once I got the new hot-rod (GMC) I decided to
judicially start putting together a new set of tools. All of this to explain why we did as we did.

I rent a 16x57 indoor, alarmed storage space for $346 a month with electrical. The facility has 24 hour security, a wash rack, sewer dump, and full
trash pickup. I'm also able to work on the GMC and other projects in my storage. I have room for a small shop space in the unit but enough to work on
the GMC and other small projects.

We live in a senior community that has 24 hour security, no yard work, and minimum house keeping. Our rent on our apt and storage combined is less
than it would be to buy or rent a comparable property (in California). I also do enough side work to pay for the storage rent so...
Yes, there is some equipment I wish I still had but it is cheaper to rent them than have to pay the overhead to keep them.

Others may have different reasons but just as justifiable.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
 
That's what I would move into at that point if I had the wherewithal. I'l note, that move and particularly the storage/shop space is extending your
life quite a bit. As long as we have something to do, we keep on keepin' on.

What about the possibility of getting a 4 post lift for the RV and parking
2 cars under it? Eventually, build a 28x40 tall garage with a 10 foot high
door over it? Is this a pipe dream category?
