Stop lights blowing fuse

That is likely not the right one. It should have two wires. One for the brake and one for the tail light. The turn signal works off the brake filament.
The 1985 is a newer one with the separate turn signal.

Unless that third wire is connected to the shell as a ground.

Thanks Emory, I had the whole thing out today, both sides. It is a 3 wire socket, the black wire goes down and connects to the shell. I found the
replacement using the 1985 stamping on the lens, again this was uplifted in the early 90s by Explorer and the sockets are spliced onto the original
wire harness.

Problem solved by splicing in the replacement (for the newer style lenses 1985+ chevy van 20 series) socket. $6.49, a few hours chasing the problem,
even less solving it, and a whole lotta help from you guys. Thanks. Might have learnt a thing or two.
