Looked at a beautiful GMC. Will probably make offer. Please give me your response to some concerns I have.
1. No separate tanks for gray water/black water.
2. Water heater, engine heated and 12v-120v. Not LP gas.
3. Refrigerator, 12 v and 120 v. Not LP.
Are these conditions normal for the GMC ?
Thanks.

>1. No separate tanks for gray water/black water.

That's the factory configuration. I've found no problems with the holding tank size - given that the fresh water tank is 40
gals. Also, I typically don't fill the fresh tank completely. Having traveled a lot, I have a preference for bottled drinking
water from one of a few suppliers. That minimizes gastro upsets due to different mineral levels. I travl with one 2 gal
container in teh fridge and another under th stove.

>2. Water heater, engine heated and 12v-120v. Not LP gas.

I may be wrong, but I think that it's 120 and engine heat only.

>3. Refrigerator, 12 v and 120 v. Not LP.

That's the original configuration as well.

Hi my name is Chuck Will, Eleganza II 1978, Lompoc, California. Your
first two inquiries are normal for all GMC's. The third, referencing
the "Refrigerator" sometimes has the three way, AC, DC and LP, most of
these have been replaced over time. The newer coaches that had the
three way with the eyebrow (controls) over the top had a recall a few
years ago. It was replaced, the difference was the 115 AC was not
direct to the green light that would light up. Apparently these units
caused fires. I now of no fires in a GMC but these refrigerators were
not just for the GMC.

Hi....With respect to your "hot water on the road" Apparently somebody removed
the engine water heating system and the hoses that run back to your heater from
the engine.
My only warning is, if you get this up and running, the hardware is probably
still there, somebody did away with the hoses, you have to be very careful not to
burn yourself on the water after turning it on. It is very hot. Like a
Radiator. Not sure the coach would take more weight. You have to give up
something every time you change the weight and/or location. I think getting rid
of the big propane tank for a smaller one might help. Thanks Chuck Will 1978

Chuck, Your right! There is a recall on Norcold Models 8310EG & 838EG refrigerators. These models were produced from March 1983 to September 1986. The recall is because of a fire hazard when operated on the AC side. I installed several of these models in GMC's. The recall started in 1993 and is still going. If you want to check to see if the recall has been performed, remove the cover of the interface board on the back of the refrigerator (the circuit board with the AC cord). If it is tan the recall has not been done. If it is green it has. If it has not been done, call your nearest RV dealer with the model and serial numbers. The dealer will call the order in to Norcold. We will ship the parts at no charge and pay the dealer to put them on.
