I'm in the process of cleaning up after changing the
steering box in our newly acquired 75 PB and have
run into a problem with the filter on the windshield
motor. I'm at the point of getting ready to replace
the steering system fluid and have found the OEM
filter is in bad shape. The filter screen is split on
the seam for almost the full length of the body.
Gene Fisher showed me what appeared to be a
fuel filter installed by a PO in the hose of his coach
to replace the OEM filter but there some doubt about
the selection of the particular filter for that purpose.
A trip to a local parts house this morning with three
possible GM numbers for the OEM filter got me
only glazed-over eyes.
So, if I wait until Tuesday, will I be able to get a filter
comparable to the OEM filter from Cinnabar or
others? Is there a consensus on an alternative inline
filter that could be purchased locally and installed
in the wiper hose? Judging from the crud I
found on the burst filter screen, running without a
filter in the steering system doesn't seem like an
attractive option. Got any advice for the novice?
Thanks
(More on the steering box later.)
