Sorry to take so long Arch. Too many things to do (play with :-)

The Caspro price is $535, so your friend may not have gotten stuck, if it
was a Caspro or equivilant unit.

I'm quite happy to pay the Caspro price based on past experience with
Caspro, as in no complaints. The steering box I'm replacing is also a Caspro
and has served me well for 10 years plus. That one was represented and sold
as a rebuild as at the time no new was available.

Of course I have no proof that what I have now is indeed a NEW unit, other
than to take the salesman's word for it, but what the hell... gotta trust
'em sometimes :-)

Cast number is the same, which is not surprising as I would think the
"shell" would be same for all.

Mine has a 26.

same.

Yup, mine too.
Unfortunately the barcoded partnumber got rubbed off during shipping.

I won't be installing it until after my next trip so we'll have to wait a
little longer to see if there is much diff from old to new.

Hope this helps

Forgot to mention... the Caspro unit came with an external PS fluid filter
(AC Delco). If I recall they are not exactly cheap. I bought one from the
local GM and if I recall correctly they were over $50.... and then I never
did install it :-)

I think I will install this one though when doing the new steering box and
shaft.

As I said earlier... not surprised that casting numbers are all the same.

I think the same phenomena exists with Master Cylinders. I for one have
learned my lesson in that corner and will stick to MC's from Cinnebar in
future unless I stray from stock MC altogether :-)
