http://www.california.com/~eagle/steering.htm Bert and Fay;
Go here and you will find what you are looking for. I did the change
after trying to do the adjustment bit and replacing other suspect
pieces. Biggest improvement I made.

Bert, not sure if you got a response but there is a
good writeup on Gene's website regarding replacing the
steering gearbox. Cardone (cardone.com) actually
makes the NAPA rebuilt box and mine was exactly like
the original. It helped quite a bit but still more to
do. Refer to the Steering section of All Upgrades at:

Has anyone used a NAPA rebuilt steering box and if so,
what is the part number? Is it internally the same as
the original GMC one? If not, do you think it is
better or worse feeling in your opinion - i.e. would
you do it again? Ours is worn out, probably because
the sliding shaft stop sliding sometime in the distant
past before we purchased the coach. At the moment a
rudder at the back of the coach would have more effect
than the steering wheel .
Thanks in advance

Bert,
Thanks go to Gene for adding that write-up to his site that I did last
year. I think it's helped a few people here already. I did have a problem
with the NAPA box and only got about 1500 miles out of the first one. Keep
your receipt for warranty if needed. They replaced mine for free. I found I
got much quicker at replacing it the second time around (grin). Not a hard
job if you follow the write up. BTW flush the system very well and add the
filter. Cheap insurance. HTH

PS There is a guy that specializes in rebuilding these. Don't recall his
name... Orr maybe... someone here probably remembers, but he does them for
racers and is very knowledgeable and friendly. He'll bench test your whole
system (pump, box, hoses) for about 50% more than a NAPA box. He can also
set the box up to whatever ratio you may want (or he can suggest). If I had
to do it over I'd probably let him have a whack at it.
