Statpower

Hey guys, I just discovered something about the Statpower. It charges when
connected to shorepower but not when I run the Onan genset.

This is because the genset starter, in my coach at least, is wired to the
house battery bank and the Onan's little 10-amp alternator charges that
battery bank whenever the Onan is running. The Statpower is smart enough to
sense that, and sits in stand-by mode.

Now I am wondering, can I disconnect the Onan alternator output wire without
hurting anything on the Onan? According to the wiring diagram it connects to
the "bat" terminal on the Onan starter solenoid. Also, there are several
wires to that terminal, 3 I think. Which one to disconnect?

YEs. Duane gave me the information in response to my question. According to Duane, disconnect the voltage regulator but leave
the common connected (has more than one wire on it).

Thanks, Duane. Just found your post after Gene alerted me that it was on his
web page.

remote is really a very nice unit and well made.

I installed the Statpower 40 and remote panel today - worked like a
charm, but I am a little unsure about hooking up the engine battery up
front as a second bank. Do I need to run a new power wire back to SP40
or can I tie the wires together at the booster relay up front. I know
this will drain this battery when dry camping. Any that has installed
theirs let me know how you did it. Also noticed when checking the 2
golf cart batteries in rear they had water on top - part of charge
process. The unit started charging at 40 amps, then kicked down to 10
amps. Upon inspection of the tag on the oem charger - it was only rated
at 45 amps.

Jim I don't have my new statpower here at the house, it is in the shop. But
if I remember from quickly looking at the daiagram that came with it, it
shows how to hook the unit up to the engine battery using the isolator.
there should already be a line running there.
